Nitro Blacklight Gullwing Mid Wide Snowboard Review

Advanced to Expert All Mountain
Hybrid Rocker Directional Twin Shape
This is an aggressive mid/wide board for going big that is at a higher price with more tech than the Nitro Team Gullwing and Team Gullwing Wide Snowboard. This is not as much like the camber version as you would think even though they share the same name.  There is much better float in powder and the ride is a little more loose.  That being said it's not as loose as many hybrid rocker snowboards.  Nitro's hybrid rocker is very very similar to Never summer which makes for a pretty mellow bend up between the feet which makes it a little more flat base friendly compared to some hybrid rocker boards.  We feel that unless you are really into the way camber rides the Blacklight Gullwing is the call over the Camber Blacklight.

Details
Gullwing Camber camber

The Blacklight Gullwing is a new concept to an amazing board. We have taken our Gulliwng camber and tuned it for even more performance. By lowering the amount of rocker and maintaining the snappy camber under your feet you are able to initiate turns and still remain under control at high speeds with powerful exits on your turns. The Blacklight is made to out- perform any other board on the market and it’s waist width makes it very versatile for edge to edge quickness, yet not so narrow that it will fit up to a size 12 without batting an eye. The Lava Laminates and ultra light materials result in mind altering response and feel.

2012 Blacklight Gullwing 160cm

Well I just got done with a week of riding on my brand new Nitro Blacklight Gullwing 160cm matched up with 2012 Flow X-Large NXT-ATSE bindings. I'm 5'11.5'', 180Lbs, shoe size 11.5 US.
I love this board. It does everything at least as well as the review by Good Ride says it will, I'm not sure if any of the staff actually rode one, or just reviewed it based on specs. I will admit that turn initiation on this mid wide took a couple hours of getting fully used to compared to a skinny board, but I prefer it now and wouldn't rate it was "difficult," so much as I would as "advanced."
I would also like to point out that speed is EXCELLENT and I could have easily been the fastest on the slopes, even though I'm still an intermediate rider. Any other review will tell you the same, this is the fastest board in its class. I also found it to be above "good" on powder, but there wasn't much of it to try and this isn't a full rocker board.
The board is incredibly forgiving yet reliable holds its edge in hard carving. I never had any issues washing out and it was very grippy on hard pack and ice as well. It was responsive and landed softly on low jumps too (the resort I was at didn't have anything large) which felt very nice. I don't want to come out sounding like a Nitro salesman, but this board, if you can afford it (690 Euros at my local shop) is well worth the money. It is the most fantastic thing I've stepped onto, and my skill may have doubled in the short week I had the pleasure of riding it. I can't wait for there to be snow in my city so I can ride it again.
This board scores a 6 out of 5, and may not be perfect if you're a beginner looking for an easy board, but unless you want to buy a new board every winter then it's better to have something to grow into. Maybe don't buy this if you've never ridden before, but if you rented or bought a used/low quality board for a season, it won't hurt to buy this and grow into it over the next few years.
