Day's- more than we can count Here is a breakdown of the different Burton Cartel bindings out there right now. 2012 Burton Cartel Line Again there were some big changes to all the cartel line. With all the Cartels there is a new high back that is a similar version of the discontinued 2011 Burton C60 High back. We like this new design and feel it gives a little more response and feel than the 2011 models. The 2011 Disc Cartel is discontinued and there are 4 types of bindings. Overall every 2012 Cartel binding is better than the previous models but you can still get a good ride out of the older ones if you can't spring the cash out for the latest and greatest. Here is the breakdown of how they are different. There are 2 common changes for the better over the 2010 models. For There is a new high back similar to the now discontinued long running well liked Burton P1 and Burton gave the old high back from 2010 to the Mission line. There are 5 Models so we'll address each model. The Cartel also has a far better toe strap over the 2010. How The Burton Cartel Line Rides Overall we have and are still very impressed with The Cartel Line. We have to say our all time favorite of these bindings was the 2012 Cartel Restricted Re:Flex but if you only ride Burton boards then the Restricted EST will be the best call as well. The other bindings are still great so if you find the right price they will do better than most bindings out there. 1. We love the 100% shock absorbent foot pad that runs entirely across the board. We also like that it comes in different types of thickness. It also has a good flex under foot that makes the entire board flex better than a traditional binding. 4. The biggest drawback is the fact that these bindings only work with Burton Channel Tech boards. Did we want to hate the EST set up? Yes because we aren't fan's of proprietary tech that only works with Burton boards. However after riding and playing around with the new bindings we couldn't help but like them. Would we buy the EST set up? No because we ride too many boards and don't want a set of bindings only for Burton. We feel the Re:Flex are close enough in terms of flex underfoot to allow. There is a Restricted version of EST with a bigger ankle strap that we like better. The Good Ride take on the Burton Cartel Re:Flex Bindings In our opinion these bindings are the way to go. The minimized base plate and flexible disc make for a very natural flex with the board. It flexes the board a little better torsionally but the real advantage is with the longitudinal flex. They have many of the qualities of the Cartel EST but also have the ability to ride other boards with 4 hole mounts. They aren't as good as the EST's but are very close and the fact that you can ride them with any board is a huge plus in this day and age. There are many companies that make amazing boards and they should be tried. They have a restricted model as well that has a bigger ankle strap that we really like. These are just normal bindings like any other binding out there. They have a traditional disc mount and like all bindings there is a slight dead spot under foot compared to the Re:Flex and even more so compared to the EST. These are still great bindings but newer tech is better. A Good Ride Take on Binding Tech This is a Good ride breakdown for all you that are having a tough time choosing your bindings and what to make of the material you are looking at. Most bindings are Metal, Plastic or some combo of the 2. Metal Bindings have a lot of great aspects. Almost all-metal bindings are made from aluminum. Aluminum is great when it come to weight to stiffness ratio and also pretty durable. There is one key issue with metal/aluminum bindings; they transfer all the vibrations from the board right into your feet. This is the same principle that pelage “bass-less” bindings, your feet got totally tired or fatigued. The newer generations have much better/damp bases so this problem has been minimized and in some cases eliminated. There are some companies that make great bindings despite the vibration issue with Aluminum. Some that come to mind are Ride and Rome. Plastic Bindings also have many great features but let’s address some technical stuff first. Most plastic bindings are really hardened glass plastic mix. The high-end stuff tends to have a more carbon, and carbon fiber added for extra stiffness and weight savings. Plastic bindings really dominate the market right now and most top bindings these days are mostly or all plastic. They can be really stiff and react well to your commands. The new bindings finally dialed in the carbon/ fiber integration to the point that the bindings will perform with the stiffness of metal and absorb more chatter. Most industry leaders have limited or completely eliminated metal from their bindings and we feel that with the materials used right now this is the future. Some mostly plastic companies that we feel rock are Burton, Flux and Union. What kind of binding should you buy? It’s a tough call. Both Plastic and Metal bindings offer freestyle, freeride and all mountain styles. At this point we feel that plastic bindings are edging out metal bindings when it comes to the very high end $300+ category. However it is a tough call in the below $300 category as to which material has the advantage. The Good Ride Take on Burton Burton is huge. They have developed or acquired most of the technology that we use today. Burton is one of the only companies that can provide you with everything you need to snowboard from boards to beanies. Burton even owns arguably the best surfboard company Channel Islands because Jake likes to surf. They are like the Yankees of snowboarding because they can always outspend their competition to win. The positives- Burton provides more products for each gear/clothing/accessory category than any other company. Burton has possibly the best customer service in the snowboarding industry. Burton continuously spends more money than almost any company to develop new tech or just make what they have better. Burton sponsors more pro’s and get’s more high level user feed back than any other company. They have some of the best boots, bindings and boards in the industry. They also have great clothing. Burton CARTEL Maybe you’ve heard of it? When pros from other companies hit us up for bindings, the Cartel™ is what they want. Great bindings!

No complaints. Great binding. Super tough, super responsive. I love the adjustability. The three different points for the ankle strap connection is a bonus, I ride with mine all the was up, so it really locks you in. Never had a problem with the ratchets, never an issue with durability. At first, I had some trouble with the binding plate staying tight, but once I cranked them down when they were good and cold, they've stayed tight ever since. They more than good enough in the response and very comfortable. I cant say a single bad thing about this binding. Uber adjustable, tough binding. Really nice stuff. |

These bindings are very good. Super easy to get on and off, and they're pretty dang comfortable. My only wish is that the toe binding would tighten just a bit more. When I really crank on them, they won't go any farther. I'm probably outside the norm in terms of how tight I like my bindings, but they could probably use a little more ability to tighten. Otherwise they're awesome!

Great Bindings! Very Happy!

These bindings are great! I got the Restricted Re:Flex Cartels. The response and feel is great. You can't even feel thse bindings. There are a lot of adjustments on thses, so once you play around and get them the way you want, you're golden! There is 1 thing that I didn't like though, but it's not a big enough deal to rate it lower. On the Restricted Bindings there is white coloring on the straps, and that white gets dirty pretty easily. But these feel great on my feet and that's what really matters. Also, I was concerned about how the padding on the footbed would hold up, especially at my hieght and weight (6'1" / 265lbs), but after 5 days of riding I have seen no problems at all. I look forward to getting more time on these!

Height 6'1Weight 260 Boot Sz 12 Years riding 15 This is my 8th pair of Burton Cartel's and they are my almost exclusive do everything binding. These will comfort and spring when you feel jumpy that day but they also will be super comfortable and highly responsive on your more downhill and speed freak days. To me it almost seems if there are impulses attached to these bindings that read your mind when you think toe edge/heel edge and do it before hand. Crazy amazing response. Comfort are the best out there this season in this price range, which is what made me get these and not the Union Atlas. Very dummy proof to get into and out of, never any hang ups. The only trouble I run into with this binding is that they do become loose in the bolts more than you would like. I do not mean that they have ever just come undone or anything of the sorts, just that you need to check your bolts before everyday you go slope slidin. So for that I have to realistically give these bindings a 4.75. But let's be honest if you don't check your gear before hitting the hills your a GOOF anyway! |

Great Bindings

I switched to these bindings this year because my Rome's broke. I really enjoy these bindings because its hard to tell they are on your board. As I ride this season, i've never even thought about them which in my opinion is the sign of a great binding. I've never thought to myself that I wish i had better response or better dampening. They are just perfect to me.

Great all around binding, however one small issue

I have this a 4 only because the price is somewhat high. Haven ridden this binding for the past two winters i am overall impressed. They keep you planted and still have some flexibility. my only issues i had were that the toe strap would sometimes come off. not that big of a deal, but worth mentioning. Another thing i noticed about this was that the base is very concave. I found that i would have foot cramping issues because of this, i ghetto fixed it and a happy :D
