Rome Index Snowboard Glove Review

$90
A perfect cold weather glove! These gloves fit well and are made to last. There are few low profile warm gloves so these are a good find. The leather gets really wet but it never gets through to your hands. Check out the detailed review below.

The Good Ride Take

Our first impression is the gloves look and smell really well. The synthetic leather has a nice sent. They also have a good fit for how warm and thick they are. Its also realy realy nice to have leather that is allready treated with a water proofing agent because rubbing NIKWAX on your gloves sucks!! The gloves also have a little leash so you can just throw them off. Most low profile gloves don't have that either. Dry Tac 2 Inserts have 20,000 waterproofing. There are also nose wipes. The one complaint is that in wet snow or rain the leather/faux leather soaks up alot of water! The water never gets through the Dry Tac 2 Inserts so your hands stay really dry but the wet xterior takes a long time to dry.

We had one day that was 10 Farenheit with 30+Mph winds and there were no issues with warmth from 2 riders. One rider runs really hot and had to take his gloves off on the chair on ocassion. The other rider who is of average heat kept them on and never was cold. On another day where mama nay nay didn't know if she wanted to rain or snow and it was about 33 Farenheit. These gloves were incredibly warm, made both users sweat, and soaked up a ton of water. Towards the end of the day the gloves were very hard to take off and on because our sweaty hands would stick to the lining and pull it out. That was very frustrating. We found if we wore thin wool liners we didn't have that problem but our hands were steaming when we went into the lodge at closing. After a full day on the hill these gloves were soaked and took a over a day to dry sitting on the top of our fireplace. So in summary these are great for cold dry snow days but they are not the best in rain, wet snow or spring conditions.

The Good Ride's Take on Leather- Leather is very comfortable, very resistant to cuts when you grab a rail and very form fitting. The biggest issue we have with leather is how wet it can get. Now with so many good water proof inserts that have up to 25K waterproofing it will not soak all the way through if you buy the high end gloves. Most leather gloves don't dry as fast as other materials out there so that is something else to consider. So If you ride in dry weather and have little interaction with the snow you might like a leather glove. If you live in wet weather then you might want to consider other materials or try to keep the leather to a minimum.

The Good Ride Take on Rome
Rome is relatively new but has some of the best people in the industry working there.  For example the designer of the Burton custom is now a principle and designer at Rome.  Their strong point is that they make exceptional park and all mountain snowboards.  They make boots and bindings that are loved or hated but don’t have the rep that their boards have.  From what we have experienced with their clothing its well made, fits well and the waterproofing isn’t bad for the price.   Their gloves are hit or miss and don’t really have the rep that their clothing does.  They have exceptional customer service and everyone at Rome seems to really love what they are doing so if you have an issue it will most likely be handled professionally.   Rome hasn’t really been leading the innovation charge the last few years but almost everything they make is well thought out and fun to use.   Rome has the average to 100+ day freestyle to all mountain rider dialed out.
