Rome Stance Snowboard Jacket Review

stance-collective
$229
Shell with mesh Lining

Rome is pretty well known in the snowboard industry for making excellent boards, boots and bindings but many dont' try their clothing.  We have worn Rome outerwear for a few years now and don't understand why their gear is more popular.  A high waterproof rating is one thing but real world applications are another.  We have discovered that we would rather take a Rome 15k rating than a 30k rating with some brands.  The Stance is a shell jacket without any insulation except for the pockets.  It blocks wind rather well but it's made to work with layers underneath.  The stance jacket and pants have been around for a few years now and we hope they continue with this design.  So far we are big fans of the design and fit but we will have more for you as the season progresses.

The Good Ride Take

The Rome Stance Snowboard Jacket Review by The Good Ride

The Rome Stance Jacket speil has been true. It works well for the 100 day a year rider.  If you are looking for a jacket to beat on for 100 days or have a jacket that will last for a few 30 day seasons this will be a great choice.  It has good waterproofing at 15k and fit's rather well.  It's a bit on the baggy side and what might be an XL for some jackets would be an L with the Stance.  The Stance has held up very well in rain, wet snow and windy conditions.  It's a shell so it's not going to keep you very warm but it sure does a good job for a bare bones jacket made for layering. It didn't feel like an insulated jacket but it felt like 2 shells put together.  It mus be all the pockets provide a little extra warmth.  So speaking of the pockets are plenty and of a decent size that allow you to hold just about anything you can think of so you don't have to carry a back pack and look like a gaper.  The material was very difficult to scratch or rip and also holds its waterproofing pretty well.  We did notice on some of the wet snow to borderline rainy days that the sleeves and other parts got pretty wet but except from the sleeves nothing got through to the layers.  This style isn't for everyone but if the color's work for you the Stance could do a very good job for a rider looking to have a sturdy well built jacket for warm to cool areas. .

The Good Ride Take on Rome
Rome is relatively new but has some of the best people in the industry working there.  For example the designer of the Burton custom is now a principle and designer at Rome.  Their strong point is that they make exceptional park and all mountain snowboards.  They make boots and bindings that are loved or hated but don’t have the rep that their boards have.  From what we have experienced with their clothing its well made, fits well and the waterproofing isn’t bad for the price.   Their gloves are hit or miss and don’t really have the rep that their clothing does.  They have exceptional customer service and everyone at Rome seems to really love what they are doing so if you have an issue it will most likely be handled professionally.   Rome hasn’t really been leading the innovation charge the last few years but almost everything they make is well thought out and fun to use.   Rome has the average to 100+ day freestyle to all mountain rider dialed out.
