Hybrid Rocker Directional Twin

The Nitro Team is a solid snowboard that is well liked by most who ride it. The Team is is one of their better boards in the line up and many like the way it rides.  The Gullwing's hybrid rocker shape is a good choice for those who want a more catch free ride that performs better in powder. It is very very similar to Never Summers Hybrid rocker.  There is rocker between the feet and a mini bend back down at the tip/tail.  There is also a side cut that holds an edge well that is almost identical to Never Summers.  It looks like a mellow magnetraction cut.   The Team Gullwing still rides very well and if you want a directional twin version of the Never Summer SL R you might like the Team Gullwing. It's going to have a better ride switch but it won't have the damp nature that the SL does.  It also has a slightly larger set back (-15mm vs -10mm) for directional powder riding or carving which is good. So if you are looking for a board with good edge hold in most conditions that has a lot of versatility throuought the park or mountains then the Gullwing could work for you.

The Good Ride Take

The Good Ride Take on Hybrid Rocker Snowboards

This is what we call a snowboard that has rocker in the center and then a camber bend at the tip and tail.  The end result is the tip and tail are still off the ground but it helps bring some good qualities that people liked with camber to rocker. The camber usually keep’s the board from washing out when you lay into a harder carve and for the most part provide a more balanced all conditions ride compared to continuous rocker or camber. This is still nothing like camber board and it provides a loose forgiving catch free ride. Hybrid Rocker comes in all riding styles from Freestyle to Freeride and is a solid next step from where it started with continuous rocker. Hybrid Rocker is usually pretty poppy, floats well in powder, catch free and very forgiving. The one complaint is it can still be unstable flat basing or one footing in some conditions like hard pack or ice. The major companies are working on this problem and it’s been getting better since this was introduced. Most love this loose feeling and get use to the squirrely nature in certain conditions. We at The Good Ride feel this is one of the better shapes out there so give it a try.

Company Information

Nitro Gullwing 2012

The Team series is the foundation of the Nitro board line. The goal was to build a lightweight, all around freestyle board at reasonable cost, but to make sure it will out-perform anything else on the market. The Powercore gives the board great snap for ollies and stability for choppy landings. The Dual Degressive sidecut makes it easy to spin off jumps and prevents hooking in landings. It has a directional shape that comes in both standard and wide. New for this season is the Sintered Speed Formula base, to make sure you’re not going to get caught if you’re ducking ropes.

Nitro Gullwing 2011

Since the Team is such a solid board it was the perfect fit for our Gullwing camber technology. The Gullwing camber makes it easier to initiate anything from presses to floating in the pow or just casual groomers. By positioning the camber right under your feet, you can pop solid ollies and have control when landing, yet it still allows you to unweight the front or back foot when making that transition in powder, tight turns or presses, making it a very catch free ride. We have also added our Sintered Speed Formula base to ensure no unbuckling on cat tracks.
