Capita Ultrafear FK Snowboard Review

Intermediate to Expert Freestyle to Jib
Flat/Rocker aka Flat Kick Twin Shape
The Capita Ultrafear is one of Capita's high end freestyle boards that is made for park riding but can also handle the street pretty well.  It's short but rides big for it's size and can make for a good ride if you want to pick up a little speed and venture out side of the park the Ultrafear isn't going to be terrible but it will be out of it's element.  We like the sintered base and for it's sizing the Ultrafear does well when it comes to speed but it's no BSOD. If you want a higher end jib board that can handle more than the jib park you might like the Ultrafear FK.

The Good Ride Take

The Good Ride Take on Capita and Union
(same parent company)

Union-
Union really lead the charge with the concept of eliminating the dead spot bindings create on snowboards.  Because of that they have some of if not the easiest turn initiation out of any binding we have tried.  The bindings with the Force style base plate really shows this and can make a stiff snowboard turn easier than most bindings out there.  The bindings with the Contact style base plate have a more mellow turn initiation.  The last few years many companies have picked up on this design style and Union isn't alone any more in this category.  Still Union makes some of the best bindings in the industry.  One of the only complaints we have is the buckle on the toe strap is very difficult to undo when it’s cranked down.   We would like to see something like the ankle strap buckle that releases with little effort.  Another complaint is the adjust-ability of their bindings.  You can make some minor tweaks to make the bindings work for you but Union pales in comparison to Burton when it comes to adjust-ability.  If you aren't that into adjusting and want possibly the best turn initiation in the industry the Union's are your choice.

Capita- Capita knows how to make a good sturdy park and all mountain board.  They even have a good Pow board that’s priced appropriately for the amount of times you’ll use it a year.  As you start to look closer in the tech of Capita you can see little issues like some of their boards still have an extruded base instead of a sintered base.  You won't really see this on their high end boards like the Black Death but you will see it on their mid to entry level boards.  Because of this style of production you can sometimes find a Capita snowboard for $100-$200 less than some of their competitors in that class range.   If you are willing to put up with low tech in some places but still receive good performance Capita might be a good choice for you.

Cool for both park and riding

I just got my 2011-12 Ultrafear and try to ride it. The board is so amazing great. I ride it in park for kicker and box. It is easy to turn and maintain stability in High Speed. Good to use it for jibbing and cool for kicker too. The edge holding is out of my expectation. The base is very fast too.

Ultra Fear

Guys, it would be nice if you guys actually rode this one, instead of guessing how this one rides based on how some of the other Capita park boards perform, and what they were attempting to do with this stick.

Frankly, it belongs in the Westmark, Evo, Skate Banana realm. I own this board, and have demoed the Westmark and Evo. I can tell you without hesitation that it rides the mountain almost as well as the Westmark and Evo, but is softer and easier to jib and press.

However, that does not make this board average on groomers, and average at speed. Definitely checks into the category of good on both. Very quick sintered base, and the stability is definitely there that you can take this board all over the mountain without fear over excessive chatter. In fact, I found the flat tech to be actually slightly more stable than the Westmark. NS definitely had this one dialed the best with the rocker and camber profile, which is the purpose of the tech, but the Capita came in second with the flat tech and creating stability.

Felt like you graded this guy like a slightly stiffer horoscope, when in reality, it is one of the best soft board for making the entire mountain your park.

Check this one out yourself fellas. I've come to trust you guys, and realize this board is in limited production, but guess work doesn't make you right.
