Drift X170 and Drift Stealth Action Camera Review |

| 329 Very Versatile Video Camera The Drift X170 camera looks kind of small in the pictures and videos but it's actually bigger than it looks in the pictures. We still like the way the size of the camera is designed over the Go Pro but it's still pretty big when on a helmet or mounted on the side of your goggles. The addition of the new smaller Drift HD Action Camera will quickly make this camera obsolete but it's not a bad option if it's on sale. This is probably the second most versatile camera and for the price it offers some of the qualities that $600 POV HD has. This is not totally waterproof but you can use this in the snow and even in rain but If you want to go surfing then you need the waterproof case. All in all this is probably the best bang for the buck and has the most options for mounting. From our testing this was our top choice until Drift came out with their new smaller better version of the Stealth. This is much more than the Go Pro but to us you the price is worth it. The Good Ride TakeThe Drift X170 and Drift X170 Stealth Video Camera Review by The Good Ride This is from a non-technical knuckle draggers perspective. We have the Stealth The Drift X170 is not very well known when it comes to the video your self world. Everything is GoPro these days. Now GoPro makes a great camera and they have great videos. That being said it really looks silly mounted on your helmet. It just screams gaper! The worst thing is seeing GoPro Helmet cam people try to walk into the Gondola, forget they are now 5" taller and hit their GoPro on the door. Makes me laugh every time. Does the Drift match the durability and video capture-ability of the Go Pro? We know it's not as durable but it's a tossup with video capture. So let's get to the breakdown of the Drift X170. Remember we are not videophiles but just an end user like yourself trying to find better video capture. So when it comes to appearance the actual camera looks kind of small and thin in the pictures. The biggest surprise is its actually thicker than it looks. It's still less thick than it is wide but in the pictures exaggerate this disparity. The hand model must of been a giant. That being said it's still no more intrusive than any of the other cameras in its price range. Both the Stealth and regular version are the same size but for some reason the black looks slimming. Well that is what my wife says. What we like the most about the Drift cameras is the versatility and mounting options. With the Contour and GoPro you have only one mounting option on the helmet. The drift can mount sideways (either side), on the top of the helmet, or even to your goggle strap. You can also turn the lens to work with any of these mounting options so you aren't filming sideways. The others don't have these options. The mounting devices are low profile and can click in and out very easy. What I have been doing is keeping the camera in my pocket and then putting it on before I go down the hill. The drift has a nice wrist band remote control that is very easy to start and stop the camera when its on. Our favorite mounting option is an accessory called the Pocket XShot Monopod Camera Extender. Instead of carrying around an old ski pole all day you have this contractible camera mount that fits in your pocket. It also makes the footage a bit more smooth compared to a helmet cam mounts we have tried so far. The Drift is pretty easy to use as well. It's very easy to turn on and off. It also has a built in display to watch what you just did on the chair. The video quality seems to be just about the same as the GoPro and the Contour but again we are not experts when it comes to this. However we did notice a difference in video quality between the cameras mentioned above and the Sony Cyber Shot we own. Obviously the Sony isn't going to compete in any other way than video quality but it's worth mentioning. The Drift in 720p accurately captures what you are doing in almost any light condition and we are happy with this. The Stealth can offer25fps, 30fps, 50fps and 60fps in the 720p mode. It can also do slow motion video. The one thing we have noticed is there is no zoom. In conclusion the Drift X170 is a bit big but to us the most easy and versatile of any camera in it's price range.
