Burton Triad 2010 Review by The Good Ride

The Burton Triad was a great binding back in the day but it’s been discontinued for many years now.  The Triad is a great binding that has something similar in look but softer in flex to the old Co2 high back from 2007 and a base plate similar to the cartel but it has a more cushy ankle strap.

I’m writing up this review long after I rode these bindings so I’m imparting some hindsight compared to the Burton bindings now. There was a review on the old site but I forgot to elaborate on the new site.

Flex: Pretty medium flex that’s a little softer than the Co2

Adjustability: Burton allows you to dial out the binding to your feet pretty well.

Comfort: Very comfortable in all aspects.

Turn Initiation: Nice smooth turn initiation that allows you to power most boards in the middle range but doesn’t quite have the response that some people with aggressive boards have now.

Buttering: Not like the Burton bindings these days.  The base plate is mostly dead underfoot compared to Re:Flex bindings these days but it wasn’t bad at the time.

Boot Support: Good support at the time but not as good as the larger asym straps out these days.

Ratchet System: Burton then and now is known for their smooth near perfect ratchets.

Shock Absorption: Even compared to bindings now the Triad has good shock absorption.

The overall feel and ride of the Triad are similar to what’s going on now.  It’s smooth, somewhat supportive and a good all around the binding.  It’s not the binding that the Re:Flex versions are today but they still work.

The one drawback with the Triad and all Burton Toe straps for 2010 don’t work as well as the older or newer straps.  So if you can find a 2009 or deal with the 2010 toe strap you will have a pretty good binding that is a nice step up from the cartel.  If you are looking for something like but current check out the Burton Prophecy.
