The Good Ride TakeBindings Used- Union Force Days on this- 4 Board Tried- 157 It's hard enough to buy one let alone find one to ride in the US but this is a really fun board. Nidecker is a Swiss company that has been around almost as long as burton and ownes it in Europe. They make boards, boots and bindings with the same precision as everything they do in Switzerland. Nidecker really doesn't make a bad board. For some reason they just haven't caught on here in the US. The Addict has won a good wood award a few years back so we knew it had a good rep. If you want the loose catch free feeling that most rockered boards have this doesn't have that feeling. Nidecker has been using Camrock which is a mostly rocker hybrid camber. Here is a diagram from their site.
Groomers- On our first run we were expecting that reverse camber feeling but it rode just like a traditional board on the hard pack. The board handles ver well and doesn't have that park board feel when you are on the mountain.
Powder- We were lucky enough to have a bit over a foot of new snow a on one day and about 2 feet on another day. This was lite fluffy Utah Powder so take this with a grain of salt but we never un-centered the stance or had to lean back. Still the Addict rides bigger than its size in powder and the extra rocker in the nose probably helps it do that.
Turn Initiation/Carving- The Addict did not hold a turn as well as a more All Mountain Freeride board but turned about the same as a cambered park board which was pretty surprising. It's not super easy but when ever you need to be somewhere you can get there. We liked the easy but not too easy turn initiation. Laying into a carve is close to camber which is pretty good.
Speed- It has a fast base and held its speed very well with little to no chatter. It's no race board but for a Twin with a centered stance it's pretty fast.
Weight- Nothing incredibly light but not terribly heavy either.
Edge Hold- The edge hold wasn't bad when it comes to most conditions when you want to ride. With the addition of Ultimate Grip which is a new sidecut brought in for 2012 the grip is a little better and closer now to the excellent side of good but it's still in the good category.
Switch- Didn't notice a difference either way.
Rails/Jibbing- You can slide around in the jib park and do it pretty well. This is pretty playful and fun when it's time to slow down and hit medium sized jibs and semi technical rails.
Pipe- The Addict isn't bad in the pipe and with the extra edge hold it's even more fun. It climbs the icy pipe wall well and it's pretty forgiving at re-entry.
Jumps- Really fun hitting jumps and one of the more popy hybrid camber boards we have ridden. It's not bad to get your own air on an ollie. This is one of the finer points of this board and if you like the jump park you will be pretty happy with the Addict.
All we could think about as we were on the hill with this is why isn't this board in more shops around the US??!! The Good Ride Take on Hybrid Camber

The CamRock Freeride will give you everything you need for your backcountry line. There is more rocker in the nose to add float and improved maneuverability, matched with a smaller amount of camber under foot to keep your snowboard responsive. A small amount of rocker in the tail will give you stability and maneuverability. Shape
The twin-tip shape was designed with freestylers in mind. The nose and tail have exactly the same dimensions and the stance is centered, so the board performs equally well, regardless of your orientation. Built to allow riders to jib, spin, stomp, and butter, it gives you not just the pop you need, but the pop you want. Regular or switch, it doesn’t matter, it’s all the same. Exclusive Nidecker
By reducing the wood and fiberglass in the nose and tail, and by reinforcing them with lighter, yet stronger, materials such as carbon fiber and Kevlar, Free Flex technology allows us to lighten up the board significantly while increasing strength, durability, and pop. Free Flex also dam¬pens vibrations and provides a unique, light feel in turn tran-sitions, due to its reduced thic¬kness and profile. BRAND NEW THIS YEAR! Following the 2005 invention of UG, the industry’s first traction enhancer, Nidecker, always wanting to stay on the cutting edge, took the next step and developed the revolutionary ULTIMATE TRACTION (UT). With UT, Nidecker’s engineers have taken serrated edges to ano¬ther level. By strategically positioning five bumps along the board’s effective edges instead of using a more conventional serration, we have created enhanced reactivity in all conditions. As a result, you will have more control of your board and way more fun!
Core
This is the freestyle core of choice for our pro lineup. We added more ash in the nose and tail, and found the perfect combination of ma¬terials to give you more pop than any other snowboard offered today. The poplar and beech marriage is also a very lively and responsive core for all around riding. Fiber
Base
This sintered base has carbon nanopar¬ticles added to pro¬vide exceptional glide. It was specially developed by Nidec¬ker and is extremely impact resistant. Stone & Diamond structured base on 2 axes to maximize glide and to optimize the dura-bility of the base. Die-cut is a system in which we cut out different colors & shapes of base material. We then join the pieces together to create bright & very ap- pealing base designs. Standard Nidecker
The most popular topsheet on the market, the Duraclear is strong and tough, able to withstand constant punishment. Nidecker Addict 2010The Addict returns this season with the new CAMROCK shape for more fun on kickers. More pop in the park, and a new base for added speed and stability while you pick-up speed on backcountry kickers.Features

i am not the expert freestyler but i ride for 22 years and teach for 12 saisons.i can tell if a board fullfils the needs of an advanced to expert rider.got me the NIDECKER ADDICT 157 from 2010 .from day one i was so impressed with the ease of getting familiar with the board.felt like i was on it for years...amazing.maybe cause is not my only Nidecker camrock board.(LUCKY ME)everything goes on so easy and smooth with the Addict.excellent grip due to the camrock design, the turn initiation is close to top freeride boards(only 25,3 waist).has a snappy flex and pop, rides very dump at higher speeds.really secure flat based . feels very stabil on tight and wide turns. not to compare with my previous cambered freestyle board. playfull on groomers and deeps. i had the luck to try it out, with 20 inch of powder and i loved it.the camrock excells.the nose wont dive.ok you should backweight a bit but you are not consetrated on how to keep your nose floating.you can play around easier than with any cambered board.feels like a cambered 160-162.switch ,jumping, spinning and landing very secure.i also ride Nidecker Megalight 163 camrock and in a normal day the ADDICT is my choise for ripping the whole mountain.all in all, a fantastic hybrid of style and ride!!!highly reccomended! |
