The Good Ride TakeA Quick look at the 2012 Lib Tech Skate Banana
The Good Ride Take on Continuous Rocker This is where it all started or re-started in the Mid 2000’s. In the beginning Continuous Rocker was mainly for park and powder. Today it's still pretty much made for the same 2 functions. There are a few boards that are made for all mountain to freeride use but most of those have migrated to hybrid shapes. Continuous Rocker helps you maintain a catch free forgiving ride which is excellent for beginner riders or those who ride at slower playful speeds through the park. Almost every one we have tried has to be on edge or it will wander giving you that squirrely feeling like a skateboard with loose trucks. The biggest issue is it isn't very stable flat basing or one footing in firmer snow. Continuous rocker is for the most part really poppy and helps you generate your own air. There are many styles of this shape so this could be a good choice for beginners, park rats and people who only ride powder. Banana Tech reverses a snowboard’s “pressure map”. With Banana Tech your weight is shifted from your feet inward to the center of your board where balance is controlled. Some weight is still transferred to the tips and tails and full contact is maintained for control and stability but far less than is the case with tip-to-tail ski camber where the tips and tails are the focus of all weight distribution, making a board catchy and difficult to ride. This “Banana Tech” snowboard specific pressure map makes turns easy to initiate, is catch-free and forgiving, floats incredible in powder, and is unreal for jibbing and poppy freestyle fun. Lib Tech Skate Banana BTX Snowboard 2011
Lib Tech Skate Banana BTX Snowboard 2010Award winning snowboard-specific designs on modern twin geometries. Rocker “banana” between your feet makes the Skate Banana loose and catch-free, it presses boxes, rails and jibs extremely well with the preset rocker, maintains pop with a stiffened tip and tail, and turns easily on hardpack or ice when the built-in rocker is put on edge. The built-in rocker curve makes the board float naturally in powder and the firm nose and tail prevent the board from folding in chunky conditions.
Snowboarding is easier and more fun for all!

On all mountain and park - this is the bananas

I tested this board recently from my last holiday. I own a Burton Custom and decided I wanted something a bit more fun - and I got that in spades with this board. I tested a Burton Whammy bar and K2 raygun alongside the skate banana.Going from a positive camber board to a continous rocker, i was afraid I would miss the stability and the carving strength that positive camber usually offers. I did miss it on the Whammy Bar certainly. Even though it was fun, it was sliding out underneath me on big carves (as you'd expect on a continuous rocker) but not on the skate banana. The magnetraction tech gave me all the strength and stability i'm used to from positive camber of the Burton Custom. It acts like teeth, biting into anything from powder to packed piste. There's not a lot of flex in the board, which I wasn't very enthusiastic about in the shop, but when you ride it, you realise how much surprising strong pop you get on kickers and rollers and how much strength it resultantly gives you on the landings. As you may have guessed, my riding is much more 'all-mountain freestyle' than 'freestyle-park', so I was surprised by how much this board had to give to me considering it's generally considered for the latter. I wrote this review to assure people like me, who want something fun, but need a board that can handle all-mountain terrain, that this board stiffs the competition on this one. Lib Tech have managed to achieve exactly what the point of hyrbrid-rockers are for, but on a continous rocker - so no worries about 'chatter' on the flats and 'jack of all trades' criticisms that are aimed at hybrid rockers. It deserves all accolades it recieves. The only negative? The price tag. But you get what you pay for - I will certainly be doing so. Enjoy. |
