The Good Ride Take
The Good Ride Take on Ride They are from the same parent company as K2 and have many similarities in terms of board design and company policy. Ride’s customer service is better than K2’s and actually has a # to call on their site instead of just an on-line form. Ride, like K2 seems almost secretive when it comes to having third party entities like us or end users like you review their gear. So many companies like Burton, Rome, YES, Arbor ect. are really proud of their gear and try to do everything they can to get you to ride them. Ride seems to do the bare minimum and despite its large size has very few demo products. Their policy seems to be if you want to try it you have to buy it. Ride chooses mainly to work with variations of flat/rocker snowboards but has recently started to work with hybrid camber. Their hybrid camber is different than YES and Rossignol and leans more on the flat camber side of things but we still like to see them go in this direction. We have found that we like some of their shapes but other boards we weren’t fans of . Like K2 Ride’s rocker shapes always seem to be pretty flat between the feet and it makes for one of the better rocker set up out there. Ride makes pretty good bindings and many people swear by them. They have more parts than most bindings but all in all they do a very good job despite the fact that a lot of the binding is metal. We are big fans of the canted foot bed but can’t say we are a fan of their Contraband strap system. They make good boots that last for a long time but boots are so personal all we can speak to is their build and longevity. Manic 155 Ride Capo bindings Burton Moto bootsMe: Beginner-Intermediate, 185cm and (about) 80kg. Terrain: Powder/Park/Hard Piste Just back from a week in France and after a false start at one of the big rental shops I rented 2 Ride boards from a snowboard specialist in the resort during the trip. This one and the DH2 (both were 2012 models). The first day I got the Manic was a a fresh powder day and it was so much fun to ride. It’s light, turns initiated easily and it floats really well (despite it being a 155 which is a bit short for me in powder) and I never had a any trouble with the nose digging in. I had my favorite piste run ever that day down a pristine black run in knee deep powder. Brilliant!... I hit some natural jumps during the day and it’s really stable for this. On the piste it’s really smooth and still turns well, even on the hard stuff. It flat bases better than any board I have been on, at low or higher speeds. On day 3 with it I took it out on bulletproof pistes first thing in the morning and it still felt good underfoot. I’ve got to point out that this is a stable board, it really makes you feel confident if, like me, you are fairly new to snowboarding but progressing well. It’s responsive but not twitchy. Its pretty fast too but never so fast I felt out of control and whenever I wanted it do do something it did it without making a fuss unlike some other boards I’ve been on. This trip saw my first adventure Into a park, I tried both the Ride boards in there. This board was good for my skill level for the reasons given above. No real pop in this board, I guess due to the zero camber but it’s no big deal when you’re learning. If you want to try some boxes, rails and small kickers then, again, this board is really good for it! I even pulled off my first trick on this board. To sum up I found this board is exactly what it claims to be. An excellent all mountain snowboard for beginners and improvers. I highly recommend this board to anyone in that bracket. :) |
