Rome Mod Rocker and Mod Rocker Wide Snowboard Review
$559 Advanced to Expert All Mountain Freestyle Flat/RockerTwin Shape New for 2012 the Mod Rocker is basically the same board as the tried and true camber Rome Mod except it has a flat/rocker profile that makes for a much easier float in powder. With most rocker or hybrid boards in Romes line they now have the "quickrip" side cut. It makes for better edge hold than the older rocker boards from Rome have without it and it also makes it pretty fun to carve out a turn on because the second side cut engages along with the extra edge hold to make it not bad for a mid flexing twin. The flat/rocker profile is almost the same when it comes to speed and laying into a carve is just about the same too. The pop from the Mod Rocker isn't as good as the Mod but it's pretty poppy for a flat/rocker board. So you loose some pop but get better float in powder. Almost everything else has similar performance with a slightly different feel. This is still an aggressive all mountain freestyle board and if you are looking for something a little more mellow and forgiving check out the 2012 Rome Postermania.
The Good Ride Take on Rome Rome is relatively new but has some of the best people in the industry working there. For example the designer of the Burton custom is now a principle and designer at Rome. Their strong point is that they make exceptional park and all mountain snowboards. They make boots and bindings that are loved or hated but don’t have the rep that their boards have. From what we have experienced with their clothing its well made, fits well and the waterproofing isn’t bad for the price. Their gloves are hit or miss and don’t really have the rep that their clothing does. They have exceptional customer service and everyone at Rome seems to really love what they are doing so if you have an issue it will most likely be handled professionally. Rome hasn’t really been leading the innovation charge the last few years but almost everything they make is well thought out and fun to use. Rome has the average to 100+ day freestyle to all mountain rider dialed out.
