Intermediate to Expert All Mountain to Freeride
Hybrid Camber Directional Shape
The Never Summer Heritage is an a aggressive freeride rockered/reverse cambered offering from Never Summer at a pretty decent price. This a nice combo between the Never Summer Premier and the SL-R.  Another way to look at the Heritage is if you took the Burton Custom X and gave it the rocker & camber tech that is the ride you would get.  We feel that Never Summer  really has an understanding of what a good hybrid rockered board should be like.   We don't think Camber will completely disappear but now thanks to hybrid rocker people are riding in ways and styles that make the sport progress. There are still some minor issues but the Hybrid Rocker shape takes many of the good qualities of each.  The Heritage won't be for everyone but some will really appreciate the way it rides.  Not much has changed for 2012.  It's pretty much the same board as 2011. The Good Ride Take

The Never Summer Heritage and Heritage X Snowboard Review by The Good Ride

Boards Tried- 160 and 162

Days-5

Bindings Used- Union Force, Flux Super Diamond, Flux SF45

Boots- Nike Kaiju, Burton SLX, Burton Driver X

Riders- 5'10" 220lbs size 9 shoe , 5'10" 195lbs size 9 shoe, 5'11" 160lbs size 10.5 shoe

The Never Summer Heritage is like they mated the Never Summer Raptor and the Never Summer SL R.  It's a little more playful than the Raptor and has a little more response than the SL-R.  It's a very fast, aggressive board....especially for a hybrid camber.  The length of the Heritage is pretty big (up to 165) so you can get to a more freeride side of things.  The Heritage sizes we tried was very fun to get out and ride all over the mountain and had a snappy response to just about anything we did with it.  We have ridden the 2011 and 2012 Heritage and there is very little difference between these years.  The only thing we noticed was it seems that the 2012 is slightly better in hardpack when it comes to flat basing and one footing.  Other than that it's almost the same board....well at least to us.

Groomers- The Heritage does very well on groomers and makes corduroy very fun.  Its one issue is the Heritage doesn't have the stability of a cambered board on groomers when the conditions are firm.  Its pretty damp but it feels loose instead of tracked in at higher speed on the groomers when flat basing.  If you are on an edge then there are no issues.
Powder
- This is where the rocker/camber really shines! You will never float like a cambered board of the same shape in powder like you will with the Heritage.  The Heritage isn't as close as the Raptor or Premier but it does a great job for a board of it's shape that still allows a lot more freestyle manuverability than the other two mentioned.  If you come from a camber board to the Heritage you won't believe what we are saying because it rides so well but those who have tried many types of rocker boards will understand.
Turn Initiation
-  Despite the Never Summer Heritage's damp aggressive design and wide waist it is very easy to turn.  The side cut and camber/rocker contribute to making this board perform a lot better when leaning into a turn. You can transfer from edge to edge very well.
Carving Ability
- You can also carve out a pretty decent turn compared to a straight rocker board.  It still doesn't have that feeling of a cambered board when making big hard carving turns but its getting closer.  It didn't wash out like pure rocker boards do and does a pretty good job for some one who likes to make aggressive belly scratching turns.
Speed- This is almost up there with the never summer premier.  We feel that as long as you are on edge the board will perform well at almost any speed.
Lightweight- This board is pretty light for Never Summer.  They usually make their boards a bit on the heavy side.  We don't mind either way if they ride like this.
Edge Hold- Very stable and grippy.  It's not going to be something you want on an icy or really hard pack day but it does well in almost any condition you would want to ride in.
Stiffness-  Pretty stiff but not completely out of the playful range.
Jibbing-  Not that bad for a freeride board.  You can stop and even hang in the park with this board.
Switch- Pretty impressive when it comes to riding switch for a directional board.  We are very stoked with the way you can switch up.  It will come in handy on long traverses to get to good snow on pow days or just to play around in the park.
Rails/Boxes/Jibbing- It's not too bad.  You will be ok if you like hitting them on occasion but not if you ride all day in the park.  The Never Summer SL-R and Evo-R are a better choice for this category but the Heritage is ok.
Pipe-  This does surprisingly well in the pipe.  We were very impressed on how the board holds an edge on an icy pipe wall and how forgiving it is when it comes time to land.  Good times........good times.
Jumps- Stiff enough to land a huge kicker and the rocker makes it pretty forgiving when a little off on a rotation.  There are better boards out there but the Heritage is definitely at the upper end.

The Good Ride Take on Hybrid Rocker Snowboards

This is what we call a snowboard that has rocker in the center and then a camber bend at the tip and tail.  The end result is the tip and tail are still off the ground but it helps bring some good qualities that people liked with camber to rocker. The camber usually keep’s the board from washing out when you lay into a harder carve and for the most part provide a more balanced all conditions ride compared to continuous rocker or camber. This is still nothing like camber board and it provides a loose forgiving catch free ride. Hybrid Rocker comes in all riding styles from Freestyle to Freeride and is a solid next step from where it started with continuous rocker. Hybrid Rocker is usually pretty poppy, floats well in powder, catch free and very forgiving. The one complaint is it can still be unstable flat basing or one footing in some conditions like hard pack or ice. The major companies are working on this problem and it’s been getting better since this was introduced. Most love this loose feeling and get use to the squirrely nature in certain conditions. We at The Good Ride feel this is one of the better shapes out there so give it a try.

Great Board. Very Happy with it!

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful
I love the way this board looks, and feels. It is so forgiving when you make any mistakes. There has been plenty of times that I made mistakes that would have planted me in the ground (snow) with my previous boards (Burton King/Bullet). I like the flexability of this board but it is nice and firm when just going straight down the mountain. There is no chatter in the board, which is nice. I'm an intermediate rider and never had great success on the Expert runs, but with the Heritage it seems that the Black Diamond runs are a bit easier to manuver now. I can't say enough about this board. It's great. I'm also a bigger guy and was concerned about what board to get. I'm 6'1" and 265 lbs and I'm riding the 160 Heritage (not the X) with size 11.5 boots. I normally wear size 12, but I sized down and now that I've broken in my boots (Burton Ruler) everthing is great! I am using the Burton Restricted Cartel bindings too. You won't be disappointed with this board!

Hot Damn!

This is my 3rd Never Summer board in the last 12 years and WOW! The rocker camber is amazing. Edge to edge transitions are quick and smooth. I've tried the lib-tech versions and didn't feel like the magne-traction was that great; it felt overly grabby and not very confidence inspiring for my riding style. The Heritage X is paired up with new Flux SF45 bindings and is the most comfortable and responsive board I've owned. It's lighter and faster than my 2008 Never Summer Revolver and somehow it jumps better too. This board is truly a work of art and I really appreciate the guys at TheGoodRide helping me pull the trigger.

Very good board

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful
I was a little skeptical at first about riding a RC board, but have to say I was very pleased. It seems a bit more flexible than the previous NeverSummer boards I've ridden, but still stable and fast. I didn't find to be squirrelly. I really like the topsheet on this board. It has more grip that the typical topsheet and is durable.

Amazing board

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful
I have to start with a disclaimer: I have only ridden this board three days, and only in good snow at June and Mammoth. That being said, this board was simply amazing. I had been riding a 158 Rossignol Jeremy Jones traditional cambered board from a few years ago (I think it was a 2007), which was his all mountain twin at the time. I loved that board, but the Heritage blows it away. I'm 5'11"/ 170 lbs/ size 10.5 boots, and decided to opt for the 158 over the 160 because I like to ride tight trees, and because I had already been riding a 158 for a few years. I should also mention that I've been riding for 17 years and would consider myself to be an advanced rider that rides switch on groomers about the same as I ride regular. I paired the Heritage with 2011 Burton CO2s and 2011 Driver Xs.

The first day I rode was in a foot + of new powder, and I had my stance only slightly setback (maybe 1 inch) to see if the rocker really did make it easier to ride powder. While I managed, it wasn't until I set my stance back another insert (about where I had it on my Rossi) for the next day that this board showed its potential. I put this board through its paces right away, slashing through the waist-deep tree stashes, straight-lining it down groomers, and hitting wind lips and drops. The Heritage was so easy to turn in the tight trees, it was really confidence inspiring. It held its line down groomers without feeling the least bit sketchy, and I was completely straight-lining it down fairly steep runs. I then tried to purposely wash-out by carving hard at high speeds, but the board held just as well, if not better, than my old cambered Rossi. I was even riding with my girlfriend at low speeds and the board was so easy to initiate turns on that I wasn't even watching the terrain while helping her out because I knew I could ride out of anything. It was crazy to think it can be skatey in powder and at low speeds, but still hold at high speeds.

The third day I rode was in another foot + of fresh powder, and I was making fresh tracks all day. I decided to do some hiking to get some wide open deep-powder turns in, and I couldn't believe how much float this thing had. I also rode some wind lips and small rock drops just to gauge the pop, and was again super stoked on the performance. I even tried riding switch in powder, which is something I could never manage to do on my old board because of the stance setback, and was able to ride pretty competently thanks to the rocker keeping me afloat.

All in all, this board handled everything I threw at it with amazing results.
