Capita Green Machine and Green Machine Wide Snowboard Review

Intermediate to Expert Freestyle
2011- Camber Twin Shape or Flat/Rocker Twin Shape
2012- Flat/Rocker
As you can see from the name the Capita Green Machine is Capita's high end eco freestyle snowboard. For 2010 and 2011 Capita is offering a camber version and a rocker version that they call flat kick. Flat Kick is not rocker but just what it sounds like.  It's Flat in between the bindings and kicked up after. This makes the Green Machine more stable when flat basing, more stable at high speeds, fun in powder but it has less spring.  Most people seem to be all about rocker tech these days but some still prefer the traditional ride of camber.  It was nice to have both options but for 2012 it is only flat/rocker so if you want camber look for the 2011 models.  The 2012 Green Machine is pretty similar to the 2011 and 2010 except for a shortened effective edge or at least that's what it says in the specs but to most it still rides pretty much the same as it did before. Nothing from the snowboard world is completely green yet but with the Green Machine its a step in the right direction.

The Good Ride Take On Flat Camber
Flat Camber is a byproduct of Reverse Camber.  There are many types of Flat Camber with many shapes.  Some have flat camber between the feet and then bend the board up after the bindings.   Some have a nose and tail like a regular board but it just goes completely flat between them.   It has a lot of positive qualities.  One is the ability to float well in powder.  It doesn’t have that leg burn free feeling like rocker but some say it floats and performs better.  It is also very stable at high speeds and doesn’t have the issues that rocker and rocker/camber boards have.  Generally most rocker/camber and pure rocker boards don’t ride well in the flats or on hard pack days due to the bend in the center of the board.  The bend can sometimes be the only contact on the snow and that makes the board unstable in the flats and it can be a bit squirly at high speeds or on hard pack snow.  Flat Camber eliminates this issue.  It’s also very fun to jib and is very catch free. The biggest drawback is the lack of pop these boards have.  It is very hard to generate any spring to Ollie.  If pop is important then Flat Camber isn’t for you.  If you like to carve, stay close to the ground and want the same benefits that reverse camber offers in powder this might be a good choice over a cambered snowboard.

The Good Ride Take on Capita and Union
(same parent company)

Union-
Union really lead the charge with the concept of eliminating the dead spot bindings create on snowboards.  Because of that they have some of if not the easiest turn initiation out of any binding we have tried.  The bindings with the Force style base plate really shows this and can make a stiff snowboard turn easier than most bindings out there.  The bindings with the Contact style base plate have a more mellow turn initiation.  The last few years many companies have picked up on this design style and Union isn't alone any more in this category.  Still Union makes some of the best bindings in the industry.  One of the only complaints we have is the buckle on the toe strap is very difficult to undo when it’s cranked down.   We would like to see something like the ankle strap buckle that releases with little effort.  Another complaint is the adjust-ability of their bindings.  You can make some minor tweaks to make the bindings work for you but Union pales in comparison to Burton when it comes to adjust-ability.  If you aren't that into adjusting and want possibly the best turn initiation in the industry the Union's are your choice.

Capita- Capita knows how to make a good sturdy park and all mountain board.  They even have a good Pow board that’s priced appropriately for the amount of times you’ll use it a year.  As you start to look closer in the tech of Capita you can see little issues like some of their boards still have an extruded base instead of a sintered base.  You won't really see this on their high end boards like the Black Death but you will see it on their mid to entry level boards.  Because of this style of production you can sometimes find a Capita snowboard for $100-$200 less than some of their competitors in that class range.   If you are willing to put up with low tech in some places but still receive good performance Capita might be a good choice for you.

Story
We all know that the world is on the brink of destruction. If we look at ourselves, our family and friends, our neighbors, we can all see that our response isn't on the same level as the threat.

The problem is enormous, and most people are acting like deer in headlights. Too stunned, too bewildered to move.

And possibly, we are not doing as much as we should because we don't want to give up the luxuries and comfort we have, and the sacrifices we might have to make seem overwhelming.

We all know manufacturing snowboards, or manufacturing anything for that matter, is not technically GOOD for the environment. In fact, aside from walking around naked, planting trees, and not consuming anything until you died of starvation, nobody can do anything that is 100% good for the environment.

However, appreciating nature is an integral aspect of enjoying snowboarding. In general, people that enjoy the great outdoors want to make responsible decisions and realize that not being able to do 100% good, does not mean that we shouldn't make our best efforts to improve upon the status quo.

With The Green Machine, by using the “greenest” materials available, we have done everything we can to produce the least enviromentally harmful snowboard. The research for new processes and materials will continue as we try to lessen our impact.

We’re not going to save the world, but we can accept the responsibility to make informed, educated steps to minimize the negative impact we make.

Besides, the graphics are sweet. Geronimo + crazy snarling tiger head + fancy gypsy hat? What?! That's almost as cool as Kayne West on a track bike in space.

Capita Green Machine Description 2010

Eart Concious Construction for high performance snowboarding. Reverse camber done right! Flat kick technology! Traditional camber option! True Twin! Sidewall Construction! Radial Sidecut! Even Flex! Centered Stance!

Story
At CAPiTA, we like trees. We even hug them from time to time and spent the last year of our lives building a planet earth loving, environmentally conscious snowboard. However, as sincere as our approach was to alternative materials, we didn’t want to make a cliché laden eco-board for the stony bros. You know, the one with typical directional shaping and tired, wood-grain, hippy-style, retro surf-guy graphics on them? Yeah…that, my friends, has been done. Our story required a simplistic deliverance bound by forbidden stimulus: singed patchouli, dread locks, dream catchers, hippy blood, and the existence of unsung martyrs from the nether havens. There was a compulsion to unleash the slithering hate from hell’s crevasses, and then an obligation to produce THE GREEN MACHINE. A destroyer of toxic pollutants and protector of the frigid landscape.
Creation Theory
Our goal with this series was to engineer a progressive, bad ass, true twin freestyle snowboard with a sincere commitment to responsible manufacturing. A GREEN “Machine” with progressive graphics and top tier performance made for an educated consumer looking for an environmentally conscious product. For 09/10, we’re proud to offer these boards in both cambered, and reverse camber Flat Kick versions. You pick!

Green Machine FK 2011

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful
This board gets a "5" because of its perfect shape and remarkable build quality. I purchased this board as kind of a "backup plan" after discovering that the nearly identicle and less expensive Indoor Fk's were out of stock. My first observation was the fantastic build quality. Beautiful board that must be seen in real life to realize. If you don't care much for snowboard construction or beauty, then how about the fact that the edges arrived perfectly beveled, polished, and de-tuned beyond the contact points. This is not always the case, even with some of the most expensive products from other manufacturers. The base is fast. Real fast. Capita claims to use a "wax infused" sintered base. This sounds like a gimmick, but yet the base remains fast, and seems impossible to dry out.

So how does it ride? Well, let's get one thing clear with regard to the FK profile here. This board has zero camber(flat) between the inserts, early rise (rocker) from the outer inserts to the "contact points", and "flat-kick" tip and tail. I am riding the 158(25.3 waist) with a size 8.5 boot, and am able to get edge to edge very well with this board. The board is loose and playful, but also holds an edge very well. It is difficult to ollie, and does not reward proper carving technique. It is however extremely fun, lively, and playful in the deep stuff, and has become my powder stick of choice. I don't like directional boards or tapered tails, so this true-twin board lands right in my power-alley for deep snow freestyle fantasticness.
