Hybrid Rocker Twin Like Directional Shape
The Women's version of the Custom V-Rocker!  Burton's rocker camber combination is better than a traditional rocker but still has areas where it doesn't compete with the regular Feelgood.  When it comes to making a good carving turn and holding at speed the Feelgood V-Rocker is far less than the Feelgood Camber.   Burton's hybrid rocker design has an extra bend on each side compared to other hybrid rocker boards and that makes for the nose and tail to be a bit more chattery.  The edge hold is lacking and it makes this tough to ride unless you are riding in good conditions. However The Feelgood V-Rocker snowboard does much better in the park, is more jib friendly and performs much better in the powder.  It takes a lot of work out of the ride. The 2012 is very close to the 2011 in terms of ride but it has just a little more spring/pop than before and a an improved women's specific core. Check out the Detailed Review Below.

The Good Ride Take

The Burton Feelgood V-Rocker Snowboard Review By The Good Ride

Our initial impression was that the board is not very stiff and doesn't seem as stiff as the Burton Feelgood.  So after realizing this is almost a different board entirely we changed our mind set and gave it a few days on the hill.

First let's address the difference between most hybrd rocker boards and Burton's  hybrid rocker that they call Flying V Rocker.  The best way to do this is in a picture.

Here is what most people are doing with hybrid rocker.  There is rocker in the middle and then the camber doesn't make it all the way back down.

Hybrid-Camber-Description

As you can see with Burton there is one more rocker bend than the hybrid Rocker most people have out there.

Our initial impression was that the Feelgoods Flying V-Rocker's medium flex did not translate to the slopes like the camber version did.  Most expert riders will have fun in most places in the park but get a bit frustrated if you want to hit higher speeds when riding the mountain.  We like that their is still a choice between a camber feelgood and a hybrid rocker feelgood.  We hope it stays that way because each board has strengths over the other.  So here is to the review.

Groomers & Carving- The place where most riders find out a lot about their boards.  We were expecting a little more from the Feelgood Flying V here when it came to an all conditions ride.  In good conditions if you take a jibby/buttery freestyle approach to groomed runs this is a dream.  It's not bad laying out a mellow carve and picking up moderate speed but if you like to make aggressive carves and bombing the Burton Feelgood camber is going to be a far better choice.  The tail holds better than a pure rocker board but it still doesn't compare to some of the other hybrid boards out there.  You can feel it start to give out when you make a really aggressive carve where some hybrid rocker boards we tried didn't do this.

Turn Initiation- The Feelgoods Flying V-Rocker and soft shape makes it incredibly easy to turn.  That is what makes this such a great intermediate board.  It also makes it easier to do anything you are trying on the mountain.  If you like a little effort in your turns then look to the Burton Feelgood. If you want playful quick turnss this will be the choice.

Powder- This is one of the areas that the Feelgood rocker performs better than the Feelgood camber and many hybrid rocker boards.  The V-Rocker's extra kink up in the board gives this board a lot of float and allows you to take more of a park approach to a fluffy day.  It also reduces rear leg burn and makes it fun to ride in almost any powder set up.  Its quick turn initiation can handle a tight tree run and can bomb a hill without any sketchy feeling that you would have on a hard pack day.  It would be ideal for riders with a little more cash in their pocket to have the Feelgood and the Feelgood Flying V-Rocker for different riding moods.  The Feelgood V-Rocker would definitely be for powder and it's one of the better qualities.  It borderlines on excellent.

Edge Hold-  The pressure distribution edges that are now called Frost Bite edges gives the Custom V-Rocker more edge hold than it would if it was just a normal side cut but we felt it didn't come close to holding an edge like many other hybrid rocker boards.   It slid across the snowment like it didn't have edges where other boards we rode that day held an edge without a problem.  On normal hard pack in the steep stuff it's ok but we'd like to see a little more of an extension between each foot.  If Burton added more edge hold this would make this a really good all conditions ride.

Speed- In good conditions this isn't too bad but in hard conditions the boards tip and tail bounce around when going at medium to high speeds. It's a common problem with some rockered boards but for some reason it's really a problem with the Feelgood Flying V-Rocker.  The center of the board that has the most contact with the snow is pretty stiff but the tip and tail bounce so much the chatter feels like it works through the entire board. You can also hear it hitting the hard snow and it makes a unique sound similar to a bike with a card in the spokes.  After a while you get use to it but this is not ideal when riding at high speeds and can be a bit rough.  It tends to wander from edge side to edge in a squirly type of manner.  This is nothing new to rocker/camber boards and one of the most common problems with any rocker or rocker camber board.  So in good condtions we would call the speed good but in hard conditions it's average.

Stiffness- It might have the same stiffness as the camber Feelgood but for some reason when riding the Flying V-Rocker it doesn't seem as stiff.  It's on the softer side of medium and feels pretty flexy playful.

Jibbing & Rails- Its not bad for a mid flexing board.  It's loose with a lot of rocker so it can butter from the top to the bottom of the mountain.  It's still not as good as many of the softer burton boards but it's one of the better all mountain boards for jibbing.

Switch-  This is a twinish shape but because of the v-rocker the board does a great job riding switch because the nose and tail aren't really initiating the turns like a camber board would.  It feels almost like a twin if you have a centered stance..

Pipe- The Feelgood Flying V-Rocker isn't the best pipe board.  The lack of edge hold won't be great climbing an icy pipe wall but it will be fun for soft spring sessions and it's forgiving enough to help you learn the pipe or try new things.  We'd use something else if you are all about the pipe.

Jumps-  The mini camber near the tail in this rocker/camber combination helps keep the board pretty springy and playful.  We weren't in the mood to go big but it did pretty well on the jumps we hit.  Even though this board isn't a twin it felt a lot like one with a centered stance hitting jumps. You can have a lot of fun ollieng at slow to moderate speeds.

The Good Ride Take on Hybrid Rocker Snowboards

This is what we call a snowboard that has rocker in the center and then a camber bend at the tip and tail.  The end result is the tip and tail are still off the ground but it helps bring some good qualities that people liked with camber to rocker. The camber usually keep’s the board from washing out when you lay into a harder carve and for the most part provide a more balanced all conditions ride compared to continuous rocker or camber. This is still nothing like camber board and it provides a loose forgiving catch free ride. Hybrid Rocker comes in all riding styles from Freestyle to Freeride and is a solid next step from where it started with continuous rocker. Hybrid Rocker is usually pretty poppy, floats well in powder, catch free and very forgiving. The one complaint is it can still be unstable flat basing or one footing in some conditions like hard pack or ice. The major companies are working on this problem and it’s been getting better since this was introduced. Most love this loose feeling and get use to the squirrely nature in certain conditions. We at The Good Ride feel this is one of the better shapes out there so give it a try.

The Good Ride Take on Burton

Burton is huge. They have developed or acquired most of the technology that we use today. Burton is one of the only companies that can provide you with everything you need to snowboard from boards to beanies.  Burton even owns arguably the best surfboard company Channel Islands because Jake likes to surf.  They are like the Yankees of snowboarding because they can always outspend their competition to win.

The positives- Burton provides more products for each gear/clothing/accessory category than any other company.  Burton has possibly the best customer service in the snowboarding industry.  Burton continuously spends more money than almost any company to develop new tech or just make what they have better.   Burton sponsors more pro’s and get’s more high level user feed back than any other company.  They have some of the best boots, bindings and boards in the industry.  They also have great clothing.
The Negatives- Because Burton spends so much money on sponsorship and tech they have to pass this cost along to the products they sell.   They relentlessly continue to jack up the prices every year.  You are almost always going to get a good product from Burton’s higher end line but some mid to low level products don’t stack up to the competition in the same price range.   Just remember it’s not always good because it hast the Burton label on it.

Feelgood V-Rocker rides well with:
Lexa EST bindings and Axel boots

Featured Tech
  • The Channel

The Channel is snowboarding’s most direct connection—focusing power through a central connection spine that evenly distributes energy for added rebound and snap. It works with both Burton’s 3D® and EST™ bindings, and lets you mount bindings to board any way you see fit. Easily dial in your stance width and angles with next-level micro-adjustability.

Rocker Shape
  • V-Rocker

A three-stage rocker that’s equally fun from park to pow, V-Rocker™ features a center rocker between your feet, with additional rockers outside each foot that lift the tip and tail completely off the snow. Along the Channel zones, we added Pressure Distribution Edges for enhanced grip and power that balances the board’s loose and forgiving, skate-like feel. Together, the V-Rocker package energizes edge control while disengaging tip and tail contact points to create a catch-free feel that’s incredibly forgiving, floaty, poppy, and fun on all terrain.

Enjoyed by team riders such as Mikey Rencz, Marko Grilc, Chris Sörman, Sani Alibabic, Dimitry Fesenko, and Jack Mitrani.

Core
  • Dualzone EGD

The wood grain is positioned along the toe and heel edges, perpendicular to the rest of the wood core, for superior edge hold and added strength.

  • Negative Core Profile

The team’s favorite profile features thinner sections of core between the bindings for softer flex and torsion. Perfect for everything from park, pipe, and pow to rails and boxes, these boards excel over a variety of terrain and conditions.

  • Super Fly II Core

Placing stronger and lighter wood in specific areas of the core provides snap, strength, and reduced weight for uncompromised board feel and response.

Glass
  • Carbon I-Beam

Our ultra-light carbon backbone gives the board added pop and longitudinal snap.

  • New Lightning Bolts

Radiating outwards from the Channel, these energy transfer lines send input from brain to edge in the blink of an eye, allowing thoughts to become actions with effortless precision.

To help simplify things, we've assigned a single "feel" rating to each of our boards. This number is based on a variety of factors including the board’s materials, shape, tip-to-tail flex, and torsion (aka edge-to-edge rigidity). This number is based on a scale from one to ten with one being softer and more relaxed and ten being most responsive. Keep in mind that a higher number doesn't mean the board is more difficult to ride. It simply helps you compare boards within our line to determine which is best for your riding style.
