Twin Continuous Rocker Powder Shape
Discontinued as of 2011
It's like they took a Rome Design and bent it backwards. This thing has a crazy bit of rocker! Most boards with rocker are slightly bent up. This screams take me out in the deepest stuff and don't take me out on a hard pack day.......ever! If you rip riding switch then consider this board if you are going to blow a wad of cash on a pow board.  If you miss riding switch in the deep stuf then give the Notch 1985 a try.  This is very similar to the K2 Gyrator. They are some of the only Pow Specific Twin's out there.

The Good Ride Take

This is a twin take on a Powder/Reverse Camber Board.

The Good Ride Take on Rome
Rome is relatively new but has some of the best people in the industry working there.  For example the designer of the Burton custom is now a principle and designer at Rome.  Their strong point is that they make exceptional park and all mountain snowboards.  They make boots and bindings that are loved or hated but don’t have the rep that their boards have.  From what we have experienced with their clothing its well made, fits well and the waterproofing isn’t bad for the price.   Their gloves are hit or miss and don’t really have the rep that their clothing does.  They have exceptional customer service and everyone at Rome seems to really love what they are doing so if you have an issue it will most likely be handled professionally.   Rome hasn’t really been leading the innovation charge the last few years but almost everything they make is well thought out and fun to use.   Rome has the average to 100+ day freestyle to all mountain rider dialed out.

The Good Ride Take on Rocker/Reverse Camber - At first rocker tech was mainly for the park and powder.  Now we are seeing many different riding styles of reverse camber and it's slowly establishing itself outside of the park as a viable all mountain solution.  This was re-vitalized mainly by Mervin (Lib-Tech, Gnu & Roxy) and K2 also put out a board at the same time.  This change in technology really makes it an exciting time for the sport of Snowboarding. We are seeing all types of technology out there but so far there are 2 predominant themes:
1. Pure Rocker where the board slowly curves up from the center.
2. Rocker and Camber where there is either a mini camber in the center or the board or the tail and nose bends back down.  Everything seems to be trending toward this type of design over straight camber.
The Positives
Reverse Camber helps you maintain a catch free forgiving ride which is excellent for beginner and Intermediate riders.  It’s also great for people who want to work on their game.   It rides excellent in Powder and floats better than almost any cambered board.  It helps you out of those situations where you could bog down.  It is also incredibly fun to jib around on and hit rails/boxes.  Some love reverse camber (especially rocker/camber) in the pipe and on jumps.  So far the rocker/camber combo’s seem to be winning out over straight rocker.  It provides more stability and is working its way into an all mountain ride.
The Negatives
the biggest issue we see is they are not very stable in the flats.  The Rocker/Camber combo’s do a lot better than the Pure Rocker boards but they still don’t track very well compared to a cambered board.  Every one we tried has to be on edge or it will wander.  When you straight line a reverse camber board and get it up to high speeds it feels less stable than a cambered board.  Some rocker/camber boards are getting very close but if you are about speed then a cambered board is the better choice.  When it comes to pop the cambered board still wins out.
Is Camber dead?
In our opinion no way.  Some of us at The Good Ride think rocker is a fad and others think it will continue to evolve into something that is here to stay.   Reverse Camber is not for everyone yet but this year almost every company has a rocker/reverse camber.  It is our suggestion to go ride a few and form your own opinion. You might find a quiver board or even your primary board. We aren't sure on how reverse camber will play out but we will say that thanks to reverse camber we are riding in new ways and styles that continue to make this sport progress.  We thank Mervin and K2 reintroducing functional rocker to our world! The creativity of the snowboard world has even lead to skiers hopping on our design bandwagon again!

POWDER TO THE PEOPLE!

Designed for riders who suffer from the 2ft-of-powder, 2-hours-late-for-work perspective, the Notch 1985 is a reverse camber design that cranks the first chair fun factor to eleven. After waiting in lineup for an hour with the pow-day jitters, rip your favorite line, throw a bs180 off a pillow and finish off in the flats with a pow butter. The unique reverse camber profile delivers the surf; the Zylon and bamboo give it the snap off the lip.
