Burton Blender Snowboard Review

burton-blender-148
$429
Intermediate to expert Freestyle

Continuous Rocker Twin Shape
A very park friendly/catch free board. The Blender's rocker is more flat between the feet than other Burton V-Rocker boards.  It also has a spoon like nose and tail that makes for a catch free park friendly ride.  For 2012 Burton added a lengthened contact point to comphensate for the and lack of edge hold a spooned nose can create.  The Blender is still missing that extra something to keep you in control when the snow gets hard so only buy this if you ride in good conditions or don't mind a lack of edge hold. The Blender is really at home in the jib park but not the best when it comes to riding the mountain unless you choose to jib around everywhere. There is some spring from the rocker but the Blender doesn't yet match the pop some of the other Burton Freestyle boards.  It's more of a smooth ride that can handle kinked rails and big jibs. All in all the Blender is a fun forgiving park ride.

The Good Ride Take

The Good Ride Take on Continuous Rocker
This is where it all started or re-started in the Mid 2000’s. In the beginning Continuous Rocker was mainly for park and powder. Today it's still pretty much made for the same 2 functions. There are a few boards that are made for all mountain to freeride use but most of those have migrated to hybrid shapes.  Continuous Rocker helps you maintain a catch free forgiving ride which is excellent for beginner riders or those who ride at slower playful speeds through the park.  Almost every one we have tried has to be on edge or it will wander giving you that squirrely feeling like a skateboard with loose trucks.  The biggest issue is it isn't very stable flat basing or one footing in firmer snow.  Continuous rocker is for the most part really poppy and helps you generate your own air.  There are many styles of this shape so this could be a good choice for beginners, park rats and people who only ride powder.

The Good Ride Take on Burton

Burton is huge. They have developed or acquired most of the technology that we use today. Burton is one of the only companies that can provide you with everything you need to snowboard from boards to beanies.  Burton even owns arguably the best surfboard company Channel Islands because Jake likes to surf.  They are like the Yankees of snowboarding because they can always outspend their competition to win.

The positives- Burton provides more products for each gear/clothing/accessory category than any other company.  Burton has possibly the best customer service in the snowboarding industry.  Burton continuously spends more money than almost any company to develop new tech or just make what they have better.   Burton sponsors more pro’s and get’s more high level user feed back than any other company.  They have some of the best boots, bindings and boards in the industry.  They also have great clothing.

The Negatives- Because Burton spends so much money on sponsorship and tech they have to pass this cost along to the products they sell.   They relentlessly continue to jack up the prices every year.  You are almost always going to get a good product from Burton’s higher end line but some mid to low level products don’t stack up to the competition in the same price range.   Just remember it’s not always good because it hast the Burton label on it.

BLENDER

FUNdamental freestyle.

If we told you we solved the problem of sinking and catching altogether, naturally you’d assume there was, well, a catch. Not so with the Blender and its pow-loving, muffin-buttering, jib-focused design. Hovering at the top with V-Rocker™, Scooped shaping, and Side Effects for enhanced float and smoother landings, it still grips like a Ginsu thanks to the AWD edge tech of Frostbite.

Burton Blender 2010

One taste is all it takes to understand why Gabi Viteri shreds nothing but the Blender™. NEW P-Rocker lifts the tip and tail contact points for a catch-free, skate-style feel. Edges come detuned and Rail Ready™, while the spoon-shaped Scoop tips let you style out sketchy situations. We even added the Channel so you can rock whatever stance your twisted heart desires.

Blender rides well with:
Scribe EST bindings and Sapphire boots
Featured Tech
  • The Channel

The Channel is snowboarding’s most direct connection—focusing power through a central connection spine that evenly distributes energy for added rebound and snap. It works with both Burton’s 3D® and EST™ bindings, and lets you mount bindings to board any way you see fit. Easily dial in your stance width and angles with next-level micro-adjustability.

Rocker Shape
  • New Party Rocker

Inspired by the feel of skating, our NEW P-Rocker features Zero Camber between your feet with rockers outside each foot like a skateboard that lift the tip and tail completely off the snow. Super easy to slip and slide, this shape makes the board feel loose, soft, and effortless to press and butter. Hungry shred or seasoned pro, mini shred to mega jib, P-Rocker will fuel your park creativity.

Enjoyed by team riders such as Yale Cousino, Mark Sollars, and Sami Saarenpää.

  • The Park Scoop

This exaggerated spoon shape creates a more forgiving feel by turning the edges up at the tip and tail. We’ve taken the Scoop in two directions for 2010. The Park Scoop excels at jibbing, pressing, and buttering thanks to steeper, more aggressive scooping that extends slightly into the board’s running length. For a more versatile ride that adds looseness and float, the NEW Freestyle Scoop features mellower scooping that tapers off just before the contact points.

    Core
  • Dualzone EGD

The wood grain is positioned along the toe and heel edges, perpendicular to the rest of the wood core, for superior edge hold and added strength.

  • Negative Core Profile

The team’s favorite profile features thinner sections of core between the bindings for softer flex and torsion. Perfect for everything from park, pipe, and pow to rails and boxes, these boards excel over a variety of terrain and conditions.

  • Park Fly Cores

Beefier between the bindings and lighter at the tip and tails, these cores are soft where you want it, burly where you need it, and super light all around.

    Glass
  • Triax Response Fiberglass

Versatile flex and response that’s capable of everything from straight-line big mountain descents to mellow laps through the park.

    Base
  • Sintered Vision Base

Vivid graphics and improved speed, plus the durability and wax absorption our sintered bases are known for.

    Shape
  • Pro-Tip

Another Burton first. Tapering the thickness of the tip and tail dramatically reduces swing weight and creates a more playful flex in the tip and tail.

    Pro-Tip

    pdetail-board-shape-pro-tip.jpg
  • Twin

The shape is perfectly symmetrical for a balanced ride that’s equally versatile when ridden regular or switch. Jib, spin, stomp, and butter with a greater balance of freestyle mobility and cat-like stability.

    Twin
Tuning
  • Infinite Ride

This exclusive pop and power-enhancing technology allows us to maximize pop and strength by overbuilding the board, then putting it in a machine that breaks the board in for you. The result is a consistent feel from the first day forward, season after season.

Sidewall
  • 10:45 Sidewalls

Extra-meaty 10:45 Sidewalls use two different angles to absorb the impacts that aggressive riders dish out.

    pdetail-board-sidewall-10-45.jpg
Edge Technology
  • Rail Ready Edge Tune

This less-catchy tune lets you slide without hang-ups and still get plenty of grip for hitting kickers.

    Flex
  • Twin

The flex is perfectly symmetrical from tip to tail for a balanced ride that’s equally versatile when ridden regular or switch.

    Twin
Feel
  • 3

To help simplify things, we've assigned a single "feel" rating to each of our boards. This number is based on a variety of factors including the board’s materials, shape, tip-to-tail flex, and torsion (aka edge-to-edge rigidity). This number is based on a scale from one to ten with one being softer and more relaxed and ten being most responsive. Keep in mind that a higher number doesn't mean the board is more difficult to ride. It simply helps you compare boards within our line to determine which is best for your riding style.
