Burton Feelgood Snowboard Review

Intermediate to Expert All Mountain to Mostly Mountain
Camber Directional Shape
With the dissapearance of the Feelgood ES the Feelgood now remains the top mostly mountain snowboard in Burtons line up.  The Feelgood really shines for the rider that lives for groomed runs, likes to carve and loves to pick up some speed.  The Advanced to expert rider will appreciate this the most but the intermediate rider who wants to push it will have a good time on this as well. The 2011 Feelgood added frost bite edges which do a good job for creating extra edge hold with camber boards.  The 2012 Burton Feelgood is very similar to the 2011 except it has a little more spring.  Check out the review below.

The Good Ride Take

The Burton Feelgood Snowboard Review by The Good Ride

Every company has to make an “all mountain” board.  What usually happens is when you get this "all mountain board" you find that does everything average and nothing great.  A camber board like the Feelgood use to be the all mountain/all conditions ride that every company made but now these days with the additions of hybrid and rocker shapes the Feelgood and it's competitors have become more of a mostly mountain kind of ride. This is a great board for someone who likes everything or someone who wants to try everything but loves to carve, pick up speed and hit morning groomers the most.

Groomers-
If you like morning Groomers then this board is great to make quick or slow turns on the morning corduroy. If you’re not that into the park and just like to cruz this is a great board for almost all conditions. Like most boards it’s not fun when it’s really hard packed snow or icy.
Powder- This board does well in the powder but it doesn't have the effortless float that you would get from the Burton Feelgood Flying V.  In a perfect world it would be great to have both boards.  One for groomed days and one for powder and cruisy park focused days.
Speed- This board does very well at slow to medium speeds. If you want to push it and bomb a hill the Feelgood will hang in there and keep things almost completely chatter free. The base is pretty fast and the board has a medium flex.
Weight- This is a pretty light board. It’s not going to break any records but it does reside comfortably in the pretty light category. You might notice this on your front foot when riding up a chair but you’re not going to say Fu$(when is this lift over.
Turn Initiation- Probably its best quality. It’s a pretty narrow mid flexing board with a decent side cut so when you want to turn it its pretty responsive.  It still leaves a little work for you to do if you want to lay into a turn.  It is fun to make big turns or short tight turns and it will never let you down in a tight spot.
Edge Hold- The Feelgood holds a pretty good edge.  With the additions of "frost bite" edges that have a small extension between the feet it does a good job gripping everything but ice.  We found it to hold in snowment but you have to keep the edges sharp.
Stiffness- This is a medium flexing board that is stiffer between the feet and a little softer at the tip/tail.  It's not super playful compared to the rocker boards out there but if you compare this to a camber board that is 5 years old you will be surpised at how the flex has changed.
Switch- Even though this board is more on the directional side it still can ride switch. It does feel a lot different than riding regular. You will get use to it but it’s nowhere near as fun as a twin.
Pipe- This board does pretty well in the pipe. It has enough edge hold to climb most walls and is forgiving enough to land a not so perfect re-entry.  It still lives on the technical side of pipe riding but many will like the ride here.
Jibbing/Rails- The Feelgood  isn't going to own the jib park if you compare it to the Burton Lipstick or even it's rocker sister the Burton Feelgood Flying V.  Still you can stop in the park and hit some smaller stuff without it being too sketchey.
Jumps- It’s a good board for jumps and can handle most anything you throw at it.  A directional board isn't the easiest to land or take off switch but it's one of the better directional boards out there for this purpose.  The Feelgood also has a lot of old school spring that made this a fun board to create your own air on.

The Good Ride Take on Burton
Burton is huge. They have developed or acquired most of the technology that we use today. Burton is one of the only companies that can provide you with everything you need to snowboard from boards to beanies.  Burton even owns arguably the best surfboard company Channel Islands because Jake likes to surf.  They are like the Yankees of snowboarding because they can always outspend their competition to win.

The positives- Burton provides more products for each gear/clothing/accessory category than any other company.  Burton has possibly the best customer service in the snowboarding industry.  Burton continuously spends more money than almost any company to develop new tech or just make what they have better.   Burton sponsors more pro’s and get’s more high level user feed back than any other company.  They have some of the best boots, bindings and boards in the industry.  They also have great clothing.

The Negatives- Because Burton spends so much money on sponsorship and tech they have to pass this cost along to the products they sell.   They relentlessly continue to jack up the prices every year.  You are almost always going to get a good product from Burton’s higher end line but some mid to low level products don’t stack up to the competition in the same price range.   Just remember it’s not always good because it hast the Burton label on it.

Burton Feelgood 2010

For riders like Hannah Teter, the Feelgood’s got it all—unlimited stance options, superior speed, and a mid-range flex for freestyle versatility. This year, we’ve added Lightning Bolts that radiate outward from Channel to edge. The result? Instant control and edge-hold that lets you get more while working less.

Feelgood rides well with:
Escapade EST bindings and Supreme boots
Featured Tech
  • The Channel

The Channel is snowboarding’s most direct connection—focusing power through a central connection spine that evenly distributes energy for added rebound and snap. It works with both Burton’s 3D® and EST™ bindings, and lets you mount bindings to board any way you see fit. Easily dial in your stance width and angles with next-level micro-adjustability.

Core
  • Dualzone EGD

The wood grain is positioned along the toe and heel edges, perpendicular to the rest of the wood core, for superior edge hold and added strength.

  • Negative Core Profile

The team’s favorite profile features thinner sections of core between the bindings for softer flex and torsion. Perfect for everything from park, pipe, and pow to rails and boxes, these boards excel over a variety of terrain and conditions.

  • Super Fly II Core

Placing stronger and lighter wood in specific areas of the core provides snap, strength, and reduced weight for uncompromised board feel and response.

Glass
  • Carbon I-Beam

Our ultra-light carbon backbone gives the board added pop and longitudinal snap.

  • New Lightning Bolts

Radiating outwards from the Channel, these energy transfer lines send input from brain to edge in the blink of an eye, allowing thoughts to become actions with effortless precision.

  • Triax Response Fiberglass

Versatile flex and response that’s capable of everything from straight-line big mountain descents to mellow laps through the park.

Base
  • Sintered N2O WFO Vision Base

Sintered N2O WFO base with the insane clarity of our Vision materials for hole-shot speed and the poppiest graphics possible.

Shape
  • Directional

The classic, most versatile snowboard shape, designed to be ridden with a slightly longer nose than tail to concentrate pop in the tail while still giving you plenty of float and control to rip any terrain or snow condition.

    Directional
  • Pro-Tip

Another Burton first. Tapering the thickness of the tip and tail dramatically reduces swing weight and creates a more playful flex in the tip and tail.

Tuning
  • Infinite Ride

This exclusive pop and power-enhancing technology allows us to maximize pop and strength by overbuilding the board, then putting it in a machine that breaks the board in for you. The result is a consistent feel from the first day forward, season after season.

Edge Technology
  • Grip & Rip Edge Tune

Our tried and true edge tune, perfect for slicing and dicing the entire mountain to pieces.

Flex
  • Directional

This versatile flex features increased pop in the tail and a more resilient nose that allows riders to easily maintain control over all terrains and conditions.

    Directional
Feel
  • 4

To help simplify things, we've assigned a single "feel" rating to each of our boards. This number is based on a variety of factors including the board’s materials, shape, tip-to-tail flex, and torsion (aka edge-to-edge rigidity). This number is based on a scale from one to ten with one being softer and more relaxed and ten being most responsive. Keep in mind that a higher number doesn't mean the board is more difficult to ride. It simply helps you compare boards within our line to determine which is best for your riding style.
