Burton Lipstick V-Rocker Snowboard Review

Hybrid Rocker (flying v) Directional Twin Shape
The Burton Lipstick is another V-Rocker board that is a good friend in most places in the park.  The V-Rocker and Twin shape makes the lipstick very forgiving anywhere in the park. The Lipstick has a lot of spring for a hybrid rocker board and is fun in any jib or Jump park.  The spoon like nose/tail makes for an even more forgiving ride than many rocker boards and it's just fun to butter.  The only weakness is the 1/2mm extension of the edge at each binding just doesn't provide enough edge hold.  We'd like to see a little more because some competitors seem to handle better in icy conditions and in the pipe.  All in all the Lipstick performs really well in good conditions but we need a little more when it comes to edge hold.....even for a park board. For 2012 Burton changed up the core to make it a little lighter and it fits the fem specific shape better than the old core.  So if you ride in good conditions and love the jib/jump park the Lipstick is a great choice.

The Good Ride Take

The Good Ride Take on Hybrid Rocker Snowboards

This is what we call a snowboard that has rocker in the center and then a camber bend at the tip and tail.  The end result is the tip and tail are still off the ground but it helps bring some good qualities that people liked with camber to rocker. The camber usually keep’s the board from washing out when you lay into a harder carve and for the most part provide a more balanced all conditions ride compared to continuous rocker or camber. This is still nothing like camber board and it provides a loose forgiving catch free ride. Hybrid Rocker comes in all riding styles from Freestyle to Freeride and is a solid next step from where it started with continuous rocker. Hybrid Rocker is usually pretty poppy, floats well in powder, catch free and very forgiving. The one complaint is it can still be unstable flat basing or one footing in some conditions like hard pack or ice. The major companies are working on this problem and it’s been getting better since this was introduced. Most love this loose feeling and get use to the squirrely nature in certain conditions. We at The Good Ride feel this is one of the better shapes out there so give it a try.

The Good Ride Take on Burton

Burton is huge. They have developed or acquired most of the technology that we use today. Burton is one of the only companies that can provide you with everything you need to snowboard from boards to beanies.  Burton even owns arguably the best surfboard company Channel Islands because Jake likes to surf.  They are like the Yankees of snowboarding because they can always outspend their competition to win.

The positives- Burton provides more products for each gear/clothing/accessory category than any other company.  Burton has possibly the best customer service in the snowboarding industry.  Burton continuously spends more money than almost any company to develop new tech or just make what they have better.   Burton sponsors more pro’s and get’s more high level user feed back than any other company.  They have some of the best boots, bindings and boards in the industry.  They also have great clothing.

The Negatives- Because Burton spends so much money on sponsorship and tech they have to pass this cost along to the products they sell.   They relentlessly continue to jack up the prices every year.  You are almost always going to get a good product from Burton’s higher end line but some mid to low level products don’t stack up to the competition in the same price range.   Just remember it’s not always good because it hast the Burton label on it.

Burton Lipstick 2010 Description

The effortless feel of the Lip-Stick™ is unlike anything you’ve ever experienced. Its secret? V-Rocker™, which lifts tip and tail contact points while focusing foot control between the bindings, creating a board that’s easy to press, loaded with pop, and virtually impossible to catch an edge on. The enhanced grip of Pressure Distribution Edges creates Porsche-like agility. Bottom line? This board lets you land more stuff. New tricks? Bring ‘em on.

Lip-stick rides well with:
Molotov EST bindings and Sapphire boots
Featured Tech
  • The Channel

The Channel is snowboarding’s most direct connection—focusing power through a central connection spine that evenly distributes energy for added rebound and snap. It works with both Burton’s 3D® and EST™ bindings, and lets you mount bindings to board any way you see fit. Easily dial in your stance width and angles with next-level micro-adjustability.

Rocker Shape
  • V-Rocker

A three-stage rocker that’s equally fun from park to pow, V-Rocker™ features a center rocker between your feet, with additional rockers outside each foot that lift the tip and tail completely off the snow. Along the Channel zones, we added Pressure Distribution Edges for enhanced grip and power that balances the board’s loose and forgiving, skate-like feel. Together, the V-Rocker package energizes edge control while disengaging tip and tail contact points to create a catch-free feel that’s incredibly forgiving, floaty, poppy, and fun on all terrain.

Enjoyed by team riders such as Mikey Rencz, Marko Grilc, Chris Sörman, Sani Alibabic, Dimitry Fesenko, and Jack Mitrani.

Core
  • Dualzone EGD

The wood grain is positioned along the toe and heel edges, perpendicular to the rest of the wood core, for superior edge hold and added strength.

  • Negative Core Profile

The team’s favorite profile features thinner sections of core between the bindings for softer flex and torsion. Perfect for everything from park, pipe, and pow to rails and boxes, these boards excel over a variety of terrain and conditions.

  • Super Fly Core

Lightened up and loaded with pop, this vertical sandwich of hard and soft woods saves weight and improves snap and response.

Glass
  • Biax React Fiberglass

Features a jib-friendly low torsional flex and forgiving feel, perfect for stacking new tricks with every lap.

Base
  • Sintered Base

Ultra-durable and highly porous, our sintered base’s superior wax absorption results in greater overall glide.

Shape
  • Elliptical Kicks

An elliptical tip and tail shape promotes pop while providing added float and clearance when riding pow and variable conditions.

    Elliptical Kicks
    com.demandware.beehive.core.capi.domain.SimpleMediaFile@abb972
  • Pro-Tip

Another Burton first. Tapering the thickness of the tip and tail dramatically reduces swing weight and creates a more playful flex in the tip and tail.

    pdetail-board-shape-pro-tip.jpg
  • Twin

The shape is perfectly symmetrical for a balanced ride that’s equally versatile when ridden regular or switch. Jib, spin, stomp, and butter with a greater balance of freestyle mobility and cat-like stability.

    Twin
Tuning
  • Infinite Ride

This exclusive pop and power-enhancing technology allows us to maximize pop and strength by overbuilding the board, then putting it in a machine that breaks the board in for you. The result is a consistent feel from the first day forward, season after season.

Sidewall
  • 10:45 Sidewalls

Extra-meaty 10:45 Sidewalls use two different angles to absorb the impacts that aggressive riders dish out.

Edge Technology
  • Grip & Rip Edge Tune

Our tried and true edge tune, perfect for slicing and dicing the entire mountain to pieces.

  • Pressure Distribution Edges

No fancy marketing campaign—just nine years of experience and another Burton breakthrough. The edges beneath the binding area extend out slightly for tremendous edge hold on hard, icy conditions, while remaining ever playful in soft snow. It’s there when you need it, yet can’t be noticed when you don’t.

To help simplify things, we've assigned a single "feel" rating to each of our boards. This number is based on a variety of factors including the board’s materials, shape, tip-to-tail flex, and torsion (aka edge-to-edge rigidity). This number is based on a scale from one to ten with one being softer and more relaxed and ten being most responsive. Keep in mind that a higher number doesn't mean the board is more difficult to ride. It simply helps you compare boards within our line to determine which is best for your riding style.
