Burton Lux Snowboard Review

Beginner to Advanced freestyle

Continuous Rocker Directional Twin Shape
The Burton Lux is a good entry level jib park focused snowboard that will last for a season of heavy park riding. In 2011 Burton dropped the camber shape and added their continuous rocker shape to make the Lux more catch free.  In 2012 Burton built on the catch free design and added a spoon like nose/tail to make it even easier to butter. The frost bite edges don't have the bite that many other rocker side cut technologies have and if they fixed that the Lux would be a great all conditions ride. Untill then the Lux will be a good conditions ride. The board has decent spring and can make for a great low cost easy to maintain jib board for good conditions.  The 2012 is definitely the call but if you can find the 2011 on sale it isn't a terrible choice either.

The Good Ride Take

The Good Ride Take on Continuous Rocker
This is where it all started or re-started in the Mid 2000’s. In the beginning Continuous Rocker was mainly for park and powder. Today it's still pretty much made for the same 2 functions. There are a few boards that are made for all mountain to freeride use but most of those have migrated to hybrid shapes.  Continuous Rocker helps you maintain a catch free forgiving ride which is excellent for beginner riders or those who ride at slower playful speeds through the park.  Almost every one we have tried has to be on edge or it will wander giving you that squirrely feeling like a skateboard with loose trucks.  The biggest issue is it isn't very stable flat basing or one footing in firmer snow.  Continuous rocker is for the most part really poppy and helps you generate your own air.  There are many styles of this shape so this could be a good choice for beginners, park rats and people who only ride powder.

The Good Ride Take on Burton
Burton is huge. They have developed or acquired most of the technology that we use today. Burton is one of the only companies that can provide you with everything you need to snowboard from boards to beanies.  Burton even owns arguably the best surfboard company Channel Islands because Jake likes to surf.  They are like the Yankees of snowboarding because they can always outspend their competition to win.

The positives- Burton provides more products for each gear/clothing/accessory category than any other company.  Burton has possibly the best customer service in the snowboarding industry.  Burton continuously spends more money than almost any company to develop new tech or just make what they have better.   Burton sponsors more pro’s and get’s more high level user feed back than any other company.  They have some of the best boots, bindings and boards in the industry.  They also have great clothing.
The Negatives- Because Burton spends so much money on sponsorship and tech they have to pass this cost along to the products they sell.   They relentlessly continue to jack up the prices every year.  You are almost always going to get a good product from Burton’s higher end line but some mid to low level products don’t stack up to the competition in the same price range.   Just remember it’s not always good because it hast the Burton label on it.

Burton Lux 2010

Fully equipped for riders looking to rip it all, the Lux™ gives both beginners and rulers a high-end ride that won’t break the bank. This year, we’ve toned down the flex for a more laid-back, forgiving feel and added our specially formulated Lightspeed™ base so you can fly through the flats. Infinite Ride™, our exclusive factory break-in process, means season after season of poppin’ fresh fun.

Lux rides well with:
Stiletto bindings and Mint boots
Core
  • Dualzone EGD

The wood grain is positioned along the toe and heel edges, perpendicular to the rest of the wood core, for superior edge hold and added strength.

  • Negative Core Profile

The team’s favorite profile features thinner sections of core between the bindings for softer flex and torsion. Perfect for everything from park, pipe, and pow to rails and boxes, these boards excel over a variety of terrain and conditions.

  • Super Fly Core

Lightened up and loaded with pop, this vertical sandwich of hard and soft woods saves weight and improves snap and response.

Glass
  • Biax React Fiberglass

Features a jib-friendly low torsional flex and forgiving feel, perfect for stacking new tricks with every lap.

Base
  • High-Density Lightspeed Vision

Strength, speed, easy maintenance, and poppy graphics for a fast ride even without wax.

Shape
  • Pro-Tip

Another Burton first. Tapering the thickness of the tip and tail dramatically reduces swing weight and creates a more playful flex in the tip and tail.

    Pro-Tip

    pdetail-board-shape-pro-tip.jpg
  • Twin

The shape is perfectly symmetrical for a balanced ride that’s equally versatile when ridden regular or switch. Jib, spin, stomp, and butter with a greater balance of freestyle mobility and cat-like stability.

    Twin
Tuning
  • Infinite Ride

This exclusive pop and power-enhancing technology allows us to maximize pop and strength by overbuilding the board, then putting it in a machine that breaks the board in for you. The result is a consistent feel from the first day forward, season after season.

Edge Technology
  • Grip & Rip Edge Tune

Our tried and true edge tune, perfect for slicing and dicing the entire mountain to pieces.

Flex
  • Twin

The flex is perfectly symmetrical from tip to tail for a balanced ride that’s equally versatile when ridden regular or switch.

Feel
  • 3

To help simplify things, we've assigned a single "feel" rating to each of our boards. This number is based on a variety of factors including the board’s materials, shape, tip-to-tail flex, and torsion (aka edge-to-edge rigidity). This number is based on a scale from one to ten with one being softer and more relaxed and ten being most responsive. Keep in mind that a higher number doesn't mean the board is more difficult to ride. It simply helps you compare boards within our line to determine which is best for your riding style.
