$359 Discontinued Intermediate to Expert All Mountain Snowboard Review Camber Directional Shape. Another all mountain board that does noting great but everything ok. The solace is done as of 2010 but Check out the detailed review below
All mountain is soo hard to define these days. This is definitely an all mountain board but it like all mountain boards it does nothing great but everything ok.
Groomers- This board is great for groomers. That is what this does best. No matter how steep or chewed up this board will make them fun......well maybe not fun but its better than most boards can do when it gets shitty on the mountain. Powder- The SOLACE is not a pow board but it has a good set back and rides pretty well. In the steeps it turns well and is allot of fun. Speed- The base is fast but not like some of its competitors. If you keep it waxed it will get you through most flat sections and long traverses. It can handle a straight line and has great dampening for a medium flexing board. The theme with this board is it can do everything well but nothing exceptional. This is no exception with its speed capabilities. Lightweight- The SOLACE is not going to win lightweight awards but it’s not heavy either. This is built very well and will last a long time. That is worth losing a little weight. There are many boards that are this light and don't have this sturdy build. Turn Initiation- The board turns on a dime and is fun to make wide carving turns or short, quick surfy turns. If you make a wrong turn on a groomer and hit a mogul run like this tester did it’s not going to ruin your day. This will dart in and out of the bumps better than most boards out there. Edge Hold- This board has reasonably good edge hold for most conditions. However it won't hold very well on very firm hard pack or ice. It didn't have the grip of some boards ridden in this category. Stiffness- Soft near the tips and tail but stiff flexing near the center. It's more on the stiff side but still playful. This board handles a straightline without any issues. The center stiffness must have something to do with why it's so chatter free. Switch- This is a directional board but pretty twinish in shape so if your stance is centered the board will ride rather well switch. It’s not going to blow your mind riding switch but it will be predictable and fun if you like to mix it up sometimes. It's twinish but leans more on the directional side of the twinish shapes. It is not the easiest board to center your stance. Pipe- This adequately climbs pipe walls. There are better pipe boards out there but most can't perform as well in other categories as the SOLACE. Jibbing- This board is ok when it comes to jibbing. The board is pretty stiff but has a little flex in the nose and tail. If you live in the jib park don't even consider this but if you have Rails & Boxes- Boxes will be just fine but it’s not noodely enough to have a blast on most rails. Jumps- For a directional board it’s not bad on Jumps. You won't be disappointed if you hit the park semi frequently. It also isn't a bad board for the mountain made jump.
The Good Ride Take on Ride Snowboards They are from the same parent company as K2 and have many similarities in terms of board design and company policy. Ride’s customer service is better than K2’s and actually has a # to call on their site instead of just an on-line form. Ride, like K2 seems almost secretive when it comes to having third party entities like us or end users like you review their gear. So many companies like Burton, Rome, YES, Arbor ect. are really proud of their gear and try to do everything they can to get you to ride them. Ride seems to do the bare minimum and despite its large size has very few demo products. Their policy seems to be if you want to try it you have to buy it. Ride chooses mainly to work with variations of flat/rocker snowboards but has recently started to work with hybrid camber. Their hybrid camber is different than YES and Rossignol and leans more on the flat camber side of things but we still like to see them go in this direction. We have found that we like some of their shapes but other boards we weren’t fans of . Like K2 Ride’s rocker shapes always seem to be pretty flat between the feet and it makes for one of the better rocker set up out there. Ride makes pretty good bindings and many people swear by them. They have more parts than most bindings but all in all they do a very good job despite the fact that a lot of the binding is metal. We are big fans of the canted foot bed but can’t say we are a fan of their Contraband strap system. They make good boots that last for a long time but boots are so personal all we can speak to is their build and longevity.
Designed specifically for women, this lightweight performance Ride now features the smoothness of 90A Slimewalls®. Paired with added carbon pop and great response, the Solace allows for progression at an affordable price.
