Advanced to Expert All Mountain to Freeride
Discontinued for 2011
Everyone knows about the Feelgood ES.  It has a serious reputation as a solid aggressive all mountain to freeride snowboard. If for some reason you don't it is a stiffer more directional version of the Burton Feelgood.  It's pretty stiff, fast, fun for tearing up the groomers. The addition of the channel technology really made the turn initiation easier.  The Feelgood is not for the average rider.  You need to be someone who likes speed and likes to work more for a turn than a normal rider. Read the detailed break down below.

The Good Ride Take

The Burton Feelgood ES Snowboard Review By The Good Ride

Cambered boards are still fun and especially if you like stability at high speed on morning groomers.  Everyone seems to have a Feelgood ES which can make you not want to buy it or wonder if it's hyped up just because its a Burton.  We do have to admit that it doesn't disappoint but for the price of $700 it better not!.   This board is really hard to describe but a few stand outs are the edge to edge transitioning and its lively feel that gives you a go big feeling.  Hit a big kicker, bomb the hill and hit the super duper pipe!  It's best to ride it as well as a few other boards in its category so you can understand.  A good board to compare this to is the Salomon Special.  They both perform about the same but each board has its own unique flavor.  It's up to you to decide what you like. You will definitely pay a little extra for the Burton name but it's hard to go wrong when you choose a Feelgood ES.  We just hope you don't pay list price;-).
Groomers- If you like morning Groomers then you will be quite pleased with almost any type of riding style you'd like to partake in when the corduroy is calling.  The Feelgood ES dominates every aspect.
Powder- Burton figured out a long time ago how to make an all around board work well in the fluffy stuff.  The Feelgood ES does rather well in the powder for a cambered board. It has a decent set back and good sized front nose.
Speed- The Feelgood ES responds very well to a straight line or nice high speed turns. The base is fast and the board is stiff so it does very well at high speed. This board is made to go big and it won't disappoint.  Just make sure your health insurance has a low max out of pocket.
Weight- This is a very light board. Especially for a wood core. Every year it gets lighter. You might not notice this on your front foot when riding up a chair.  It doesn't hurt when you are riding either. It makes everything you try to do a little easier.
Turn Initiation- This might be this board’s best feature and one of the major reasons why this board is so popular. It’s pretty narrow board with a deep side cut so when you want to turn it its extremely responsive. Even though it’s stiff it still seems to put you into your next turn.  Not many boards have the ability to do that.
Edge Hold- The Feelgood ES has a lot of camber that drives the nose and tail's edge into the snow.  It also has stainless steel edges. Burton also extends their board out by 1/2 of a millimeter right near each of the binding mounts and you can see it if you look down the edges.  This helps edge hold in most firm or icy conditions. It’s a great idea and the Feelgood ES still has that traditional board feel with a little extra grip.
Stiffness- This is a medium to medium/stiff flex and a definitely a step up from the custom.  Every year Burton figures out how to keep this board chatter free at high speed and reduce the stiffness.
Switch- Even though this board is more on the directional side it still can ride switch. It does feel a lot different than riding regular. You will get use to it but it’s nowhere near as fun as a twin.
Pipe- This board does very well in the pipe. Good edge hold and gets you from one transition to the next.
Jibbing- You can jib around on this board but it’s not going to tickle your jib fancy like other soft park boards.
Rails/Boxes- Not this boards forte but it does pretty good for how stiff it is.  If you have such an expensive board you can probably afford a more rail friendly board and save your rails for a park mood swing.
Jumps-It springs off of any size jump. Don’t  worry about this board.......worry about your ability

.

The Good Ride Take on Burton

Burton is huge. They have developed or acquired most of the technology that we use today. Burton is one of the only companies that can provide you with everything you need to snowboard from boards to beanies.  Burton even owns arguably the best surfboard company Channel Islands because Jake likes to surf.  They are like the Yankees of snowboarding because they can always outspend their competition to win.

The positives- Burton provides more products for each gear/clothing/accessory category than any other company.  Burton has possibly the best customer service in the snowboarding industry.  Burton continuously spends more money than almost any company to develop new tech or just make what they have better.   Burton sponsors more pro’s and get’s more high level user feed back than any other company.  They have some of the best boots, bindings and boards in the industry.  They also have great clothing.

The Negatives- Because Burton spends so much money on sponsorship and tech they have to pass this cost along to the products they sell.   They relentlessly continue to jack up the prices every year.  You are almost always going to get a good product from Burton’s higher end line but some mid to low level products don’t stack up to the competition in the same price range.   Just remember it’s not always good because it hast the Burton label on it.

Featured Tech
  • The Channel

The Channel is snowboarding’s most direct connection—focusing power through a central connection spine that evenly distributes energy for added rebound and snap. It works with both Burton’s 3D® and EST™ bindings, and lets you mount bindings to board any way you see fit. Easily dial in your stance width and angles with next-level micro-adjustability.

Core
  • Dragonfly Core

The world’s premier wood core incorporates over 500 independent laminations, each individually oriented within the core to create the lightest, strongest, and liveliest wood core on the planet.

  • Multizone EGD

The wood grain is perpendicular to the core only under the bindings—the area from which a rider’s power emanates—to enhance carving precision, response, and durability while maximizing snow sensitivity.

  • Negative Core Profile

The team’s favorite profile features thinner sections of core between the bindings for softer flex and torsion. Perfect for everything from park, pipe, and pow to rails and boxes, these boards excel over a variety of terrain and conditions.

Glass
  • Carbon I-Beam

Our ultra-light carbon backbone gives the board added pop and longitudinal snap.

  • Carbon Vaporskin Lite

Carbon Vaporskin Lite™ utilizes the same magic found on space shuttles to shave additional ounces off of the Vapor™. By subtracting glass and adding carbon, we are able to drastically reduce weight while maximizing snap and strength.

Feel
  • 5

To help simplify things, we've assigned a single "feel" rating to each of our boards. This number is based on a variety of factors including the board’s materials, shape, tip-to-tail flex, and torsion (aka edge-to-edge rigidity). This number is based on a scale from one to ten with one being softer and more relaxed and ten being most responsive. Keep in mind that a higher number doesn't mean the board is more difficult to ride. It simply helps you compare boards within our line to determine which is best for your riding style.
